Well, my name is Sara Berg. I graduated in 1997 from Liverpool High School in Liverpool, NY, a suburb of Syracuse, then headed to lovely Rochester, NY for college. I earned a BS in Information Technology at RIT in May 2000, after which I moved to Boston to work as an Oracle DBA at Palm. After getting laid off, I did a 2 1/2 month backpacking tour of Europe, which was much fun. At the beginning of 2002 I returned to school, earning a AS in Criminal Justice from Middlesex Community College. These days I'm back at RIT to do my MS in Information Technology, specializing in security, forensics, and criminal justice. Last year I was a database graduate assistant for the department, and this year I'm the graduate research assistant for the NSF-funded Women in IT project, looking at the attrition of women in technology and computing programs across the United States. I've also been doing research on identity theft victimization since Sept 2004, looking at various factors involved in an IDT incident and the victimization process, which has been very interesting. I'll be finishing up my thesis (on the effects of ID Theft victimization of college students) in May 2005, after which I'm hoping to attain a position doing computer forensics investigation.
I'm a member of Computer Science House, which is overall a cool place to be in. If you're interested in computers in any way, and you want to go to RIT or are already a student there, I'd definitely check them out. I also belong to a number of other groups on campus, including SPARSA (Security Practices and Research Student Association -- I'm the VP of Research), the Social Computing Club (Treasurer by default!), RIT Singers and RIT Players. I also enjoy acting in theatre, so hopefully I'll have a chance to get involved with more shows this year.
And how could I forget! In September 2004 I got married to my wonderful hubby, Eric (aka Schu). He rocks. Of course, I'm not biased about this at all. :D
That's it. Go back to Sara's Spot
