1. IMPORTANT NOTES AND KNOWN ISSUES
- AlphaSmart Manager 2 does not support mixed carts.
You cannot use AlphaSmart Manager 2 with a SmartOption Cart that contains both Neos and AlphaSmart 3000s. Unexpected results will occur if you try to send and retrieve data from both types of devices at the same time. Make sure only one type of device--either Neos or AlphaSmart 3000s--is connected to the AlphaHub when using AlphaSmart Manager 2.
-
When Updating SmartApplets, Searching Higher Level Folders May Increase Search Time
(PC Only)
If you choose to update SmartApplets during installation, searching
a large, higher level folder on your hard drive may take a long time as all
subfolders must be searched. Specifying a more precise folder shortens
the search time. For instance, if you know the SmartApplet file is somewhere
in your Program Files folder, searching your Program Files folder will
be much faster than searching from the root level of your entire hard drive.
- Beamer and KeyWords SmartApplets Are Included with AlphaSmart Manager 2
Beamer and KeyWords SmartApplets are now included with AlphaSmart Manager 2. You can disregard any references in the documentation about separately purchasing these SmartApplets.
- AlphaSmart Manager 2 and AlphaSmart Manager 1.x Compatibility
AlphaSmart Manager 2 and AlphaSmart Manager 1.x cannot be run at the same time.
Exit one application before attempting to run the other.
- AlphaSmart Manager 2 and QuizManager 1.1 Compatibility
AlphaSmart Manager 2 and QuizManager 1.1 cannot be run at the same time.
Exit one application before attempting to run the other.
- AlphaSmart Manager 2 and Get Utility Compatibility
AlphaSmart Manager 2 and Get Utility cannot be run at the same time.
Exit one application before attempting to run the other.
- The International Currency Symbol Transfers as a Euro Character (Macintosh
only)
The international currency symbol transfers as the Euro symbol on all Mac 9.x through 10.x
operating systems when using the send key and a direct USB cable connection. The symbol transfers correctly when using AlphaSmart Manager to retrieve the file.
- LEDs on Neos Without Batteries Turn Amber When Connected to an AlphaHub
If a Neo does not have a battery installed, its LED turns amber when connected to an
AlphaHub. This doesn't affect its functionality in any way.
- Copying Text Leaves Text Selected in AlphaWord Plus
Text stays selected after you press cmd-C or ctrl-C in AlphaWord Plus. Earlier versions of AlphaWord deselected the text after pressing cmd-C or ctrl-C.
-
Unresponsive Neo When Connected to a Macintosh That Wakes from Sleep.
A Neo might not respond after the Macintosh to which it's connected wakes from sleep. Unplug the USB cable from Neo, wait a few seconds, then reconnect the USB cable. Neo should respond properly now.
2. TROUBLESHOOTING
-
AlphaSmart Manager 2 won't install on my OS 9 Macintosh.
The installer requires a later CarbonLib than was originally included
with OS 9. You'll need to upgrade either CarbonLib to 1.6 or your OS
to 9.2.1 or later.
To upgrade CarbonLib, download and install the latest CarbonLib from Apple's
website. At the time of publication, the latest CarbonLib may be
found here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120047
Alternatively, update your Macintosh OS to version 9.2.1 or later. At the time of
publication, the "Mac OS 9: Available Updates" page can be found
here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
- My Neo locked up, but I don't want to lose files by doing a factory reset.
Press the left shift key and tab when turning on a locked up device. Neo will display the SmartApplets menu. Connect your Neo and retrieve your files using AlphaSmart Manager 2. After you retrieve the files, you can reset the device, if necessary.
-
I received a "USB Device Not Recognized" error and
now AlphaSmart Manager no longer connects to Neo.
AlphaSmart Manager 2 does not currently support connection to Neo via
a USB 2.0 hub. Connect Neo directly to a USB port on your computer.
-
I can't find the sample rubrics (also known as checklists).
You can find them in the Sample Rubrics folder found on your hard drive
in the AlphaSmart Manager 2 folder. (On a PC: \Program Files\AlphaSmart\AlphaSmart
Manager2\Sample Rubrics; on a Macintosh: Applications:AlphaSmart:AlphaSmart
Manager 2:Sample Rubrics.) They can also be found in the Sample Rubrics
folder on the AlphaSmart Manager 2 CD.
- I'm sending an AlphaWord file to a Dana, but the text doesn't transfer. I've
already sent it once successfully, so I don't understand why it isn't working.
Make sure that AlphaWord on Dana does not have a file open with the same name as
the one being sent from the Neo or AlphaSmart 3000. Rename the file on either device and resend.
-
In AlphaWord Plus, I press ctrl-B to receive a file, but I don't
get the "Ready
to receive a file" prompt.
If the caps lock key is on, pressing ctrl-B has no effect. (You can tell if the caps lock key is on
if the lower right corner of the screen displays a block character.) Press the
caps lock key to turn it off and press ctrl-B again.
- The file being sent from my Dana has "garbage" in it.
Neos and AlphaSmart 3000s can exchange AlphaWord/AlphaWord Plus files with Danas. Other
file types may be sent, but they may be unusable. Incompatible
file types may be filled with random "garbage" characters. Some
examples:
- an RTF file created in QuickWord on Dana will not transfer properly;
a DOC file will, however
- a document created in Documents to Go will not transfer properly
from Dana
