Information on Goldfish Sanctuary Membership Goldfish Sanctuary is a not-for-profit organization. We welcome members who would be willing to help the cause and make the world a better place for goldfish. Goldfish Sanctuary requires the following of any member in our organization, and failure to comply could be grounds for dismissal at the discretion of GFS: 1) Any goldfish being kept in the Goldfish Sanctuary may not be given away if it is understood that the goldfish would be used for fish food or any other fatal purpose. 2) Fish are given to the Sanctuary in good faith, and towards the end that the fish will have a better life. The Sanctuary and its members must make sure that any fish given away are going to good homes. This is accomplished by interviewing the potential adopter. If the adopter does not know how to care for goldfish, the GFS member will offer the proper information. If the adopter is not willing to care for the goldfish properly, the fish cannot be offered to that individual. Possible examples are: placing the fish into a tank that is too small, keeping it with tropical fish, or giving it as a gift to someone who is not willing to care for it properly. 3) Any fish accepted by the Goldfish Sanctuary must be cared for properly. This includes: daily feeding, partial water change every 1 - 4 weeks, clean water, stress-free safe environment, and adequate space. An overstocking of a tank is not appropriate nor acceptable. For information on fish per tank, see our homepage... remember that fish can be kept in a variety of containers should an emergency arise. 4) All fish accepted into the Sanctuary should be quarantined for a period of not less than 2 weeks. A sick fish or otherwise suspicious fish may not be released into general population. 5) Members of GFS may accept donations of equipment for their Chapter. In no case may these donations be used for personal use without permission from the donator. Equipment donated may also not be sold for profit. Equipment may, however, be given away provided that it is for the benefit of a fish in need. Small monetary donations may also be accepted for the advancement of a chapter. Chapter heads are responsible for adhering to any legal obligations related to accepting donations for their geographical area. 6) If a member receives information about a goldfish in need, but cannot accept additional fish into that chapter, he/she may facilitate the adoption of that fish in some other way. One possibility would be to contact the GFS adoption page on the WEB so that the fish may be listed for adoption publically. 7) A member may be dismissed from GFS at any time at HQ's discretion. Possible reasons for dismissal may include (but are not limited to) mistreatment of goldfish or responsibilities, failure to carry out duties, or criminal activities. 8) A member may leave the GFS at any time provided that GFSmembership is notified, and provided that all goldfish in that chapter have been taken care of prior to resignation. 9) These rules are subject to change, and members of GFS will be responsible for adhering to these as well as future rules.
