I'm almost done with my dwarves!!! I only need to buy 1 more box set of warriors, and I will have a full 2000 point army for warhammer fantasy. Once that's done, I am a short hop away from my 3000 point army as well, but that will probably wait until the fall sometime. My 2000 point version will be done by August, painted and everything (cuz Jose is having a tournament then). For anybody who's interested, my army has 80 dwarves in it, plus 5 war machines, for a total of 83 models (It'll make sense in a minute)...
2 regiments of 15 warriors
1 regiment of 15 hammerers (elites)
1 regiment of 10 crossbows
1 regiment of 12 thunderers (muskets)
2 dwarf cannons with 3 crew each
1 organ gun with 3 crew (basically 5 small cannons in one)
2 gyrocopters with dwarf pilots (pilot & machine = 1 model)
1 Dwarf Lord (King Thorin Brimblestone!)
1 Dwarf Hero (Ummm... Haven't thunk up a name for him yet)
So, I still need to paint like, most of the army. But, I figure I can knock out a regiment a week, so that should get me done in about a month or so...
Also, I am going to Maryland for GamesDay 2001 with Jon. THAT should be FUN. ;> L8R!

Thorin? Couldn't be more origanal GF.
How about you call your hero Thoradain Stonehammer
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, June 15, 2001 - 11:41 am: |
At least it wasn't a total ripoff of the name. Thorin is actually a very common dwarven name, I'll have you know, the simple fact that he HAPPENED to be the displaced dwarven king from Lonely Mountain in The Hobbit makes no difference. And yes, if you MUST know, I also used his cousin's name, Dwalin, as the standard-bearer for my army (the 3000-point flavor). So, NYAH! |P~~~
By Jonathan Sachs (Viper) on Friday, June 15, 2001 - 02:51 pm: |
Unfortunately for Greyfox he and I are entering the same tournament. His stubby dwarves will feel pain when my mounted Bretonnian army trample his hopes of victory. For those who don't know King Thorin and my knights have tangoed before. So if it comes down to us duking it out it will be a very nasty Grudgematch. For comparison my army consists of the following:
1 Lord
1 Pegasus Mounted Paladin
1 Paladin
1 Standard Bearer
1 Mage
10 Knights of the Realm (Standard Knight)
6 Questing Knights (Slightly Better Knights)
6 Grail Knights (The Best Knights in the Game)
15 Halberdiers
30 Longbowmen
Even though my army doesn't have any warmachines and has 11 less models it has emerged victorious from more grim situations.

My army is almost complete and when I am done the forces of Chaos will reign.
Now that I have that out of my system, I bought a Chaos Land Raider yesterday and built it.
My army list now reads like this
1 Chaos Lord (thank you John)
1 Bloodthirster (again thank you John)
1 Land Raider
1 Rhino
22 Khorn Berzerkers
10 Space marines
4 Marine Bikers
10 Thousand Sons Marines (Once again thanks to John)
All told it comes to about 1500 points. So beware for the forces of Chaos are close at hand and "no flesh shall be spared."

Yeah. Sure. Bring it on, Blood-boy. I have a little surprise for ya...
My marines will kick your TOOKUS!
By Vengence is Mine (Knight_Hawk) on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 - 01:17 am: |
Contrary to Derf's statements I tested my army at the Encounter on Sunday and while the army did not win I gained some insight into better usage of the units. I might have won the first battle against John if I had remembered about my Bloodthirster.
One thing that surprised me however was,
my ten marines going toe to toe with an Eldar Wraithlord, and while they could not hurt it they tied it up for almost the entire battle.
I bought a squad of Chaos Obliterators and fielded them as well as working out the exact composition of my 2000 pt army.
BE AFRAID.

I just found out I can't get June 28th off for GamesDay 2002. My boss sucks. She's worried that too many people will be out that day, and is refusing me the day based on the assumption that others are taking it off. How much sense does THAT make? Whatever. And now I'm boned cuz I made the official attempt to get the day off, so calling in sick or whatever will be highly suspicious. DAMN. Oh well, no Gamesday for me this year, I guess. On the bright side, I got 1 more vacation day floating around...

Well it isn't exactly warzone/warhammer, but it IS a strategy/tactical wargame in the form of a board game, kinda like Risk or Axis & Allies. It is called "WAR! Age of Imperialism." and it is manufactured by Eagle Games. The board is magnificent, weighing in at a whopping 3 feet x 4 feet, with an exquisitely detailed map of eurasia, africa, and australia. The box wasn't big enough for the americas to be included, but there will be an expansion with the americas included and 2 additional armies. Basically, the game has 3 sets of rules (varying degrees of complexity) and puts you in control of an expansionist empire in the late 1800's to early 1900. You can command riflemen, cavalry, artillery, boats, leaders, explorers, & engineers in a quest to control the most territories, resources, and wind up being the most powerful empire in the world! OR, you could play total domination in which only 1 player is left standing in the end, in total control of the world.
Now, you're thinking "this sounds alot like RISK". This is where you would be incorrect. You can build cities, seaports, railroads, factories, and schools, each of which benefit your empire in the grand scheme of things. Unlike Risk, you actually get to purchase your starting armies, so your initial force is customizable. Unlike Risk, this game has randomly generated resources and native-controlled regions, which you can either conquer militarily OR send out an exploration party to convince the natives to join your empire. In some cases, neither of these options is very easy at all. Don't be surprised if you lose between 15-20 explorers PER GAME!
All told, the game is challenging, has infinite replayability, is fun, and it can really make you think. Do you develop military or economy? Is your current military strong enough to defend your resources in case of attack? Those opposing forces massing near your level 12 resource territory could change the tide of the game if you aren't careful, and match their buildup piece for piece... I have played 4 games so far, 2 of which were resounding victories for me, and 2 of which were fairly harsh beatings. it really is fun, and I highly recommend all fans of wargames/strategy games to check it out. I give it 5 stars out of 5, possibly the best board game I have ever played recently. L8R!

Yesterday I went to the Encounter in Allentown PA and participated in the 13th Black Crusade of Abbadon the Despoiler. Unfortunettly it was an imperial victory over the forces of Chaos, but the fear not the Legions are not lost as they are up 3-2 over the forces of the False Emporer. These standings will be tallied at the end of the campaign in August and depending on who wins the story will change or remain the same as to who will control the planet Cadia.
The scenario is simple, the Imperium is protecting it,s shield generator if it falls then Chaos wins and takes the planet. It sounds simple as I said but protecting it besides the armies brought in by the players is a huge wall several trenchs and a Wolfhound class Titan. To combat this Abbadon has deployed his forces towards the end enters the fray himself. He is hereiled by three Defilers and rides in on his own chariet. The chariet is actually six (yes six) Land Raiders all attached to each other and a platform put on top. On this platform ride three squads of three Obliterators and a tower structure with a LARGE cannon attached to it and protected by four void shields. (The tower was created useing and converting a Necron Monolith.) Abbadon rides on top with two deamons as body gaurd who when killed are replaced by two more on a roll of six. The cannon (called a siege cannon) takes two rounds to charge up and when fired an energy beam as wide as the six Land Raiders erupts from it Vaporizing EVERYTHING in its path (no save throw) this includes the Titan and the wall. This leaves the generator open to attack and allow Chaos to win.

I just love how GW decides to make an army be the "Army of Choice" for a given moment, and then do it up right cheesy with stuff like 6 landraider-wide beams of immense unstoppable energy. What's the fun of playing if you already know Chaos is going to win? 3 void shields? void shields suck to take out. If you focus all your firepower from your army just on the war machine, you get overrun by the regular army. If you take on the regular army, the war machine rolls in and eats a hole in the wall.
I'm not saying I would roll over and surrender at the sight of it, I'm merely saying that when GW wants a particular army to win a particualr campaign, they'll do a nifty "update" and "re-release" just prior to the campaign, and laugh at all the players of the other armies as they scream about the new cheese. Look at the Tyrranid campaign. Look at Albion--ok, so the High Elves won, but the Dark Elves (the NEW release for that campaign) were second. And not by much. The overall campaign was considered a draw between the forces of good and evil, and EVEN THEN they were hinting at "the coming storm of chaos".
BEHOLD! The POWER of CHEESE! I have spoken. I have methods of dealing with Cheese--like big, crunchy crackers I can use to scoop it up and devour it's cheesiness with... Be warned, Damien, you KNOW what I bought at Games Day. ;)

Philisophical Question:
Should any army be capable of beating any other army supposing they are each allowed to choose the same number of points, and also supposing each makes good choices for these points? Or would a rock-paper-scissors approach be acceptable?
By Technomage (Houdini) on Monday, June 30, 2003 - 04:41 pm: |
hahaah
Orcs use rock-paper-scissors to settle all disputes, allthough they take it a bit more ...literal.
"Me got a big rock!"
"Me got pointy scissors!"
"WHAT?? Me just have stupid wad of paper! *gulp* Me outta here!
By IT Ninja (Sol) on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 02:51 pm: |
Ah ha ha that's pretty funny! Still, you could give a pretty nasty papercut if you play it right!

Yes Fred it is cheesy but as was proved that day it can be stopped. It is damn near impossible but it can be done.
What happened was this: someone had put together 500 points of Grey Knights and deep striked the Terminators and inquisiter onto the chariot. The Terminators landed on the side of the chariot and had to fight their way through the nine Obliterators. However the inquisitor managed to pop in right next to the console and shut and restarted the power up sequence. This meant the with the weapon would be ready to fire the turn after the game ended thus allowing the imperium to keep it's generator alive.
And Fred you have to admit that my army is formidable. I may not have beat you but I made you work for the victory.
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Monday, July 14, 2003 - 11:31 am: |
It would be better with more figures. I had numerical superiority which is what won me the game. Yeah, the big crab things were scary looking, but you hyped them up so much that I was not as impressed by them as I expected to be. I didn't like the obliterators though, as was proven by my 3 rounds of rapid-fire ammunition wasting from 2 squads in order to kill them. Sisters of Battle is a shooty army, make no mistake.
Overall, it was a good match and fun. I did not expect to "walk all over you" (essentially that's the psychological portion of my victory plan) but I did win, which is important to note. You just need to iron out the tactics for your army and it will be very difficult to beat. At the end there when your land-raid spit out the terminators and they just started walking through units, that was beautiful. Kinda like what I do with the seraphim. anyway, I've lost everybody else with this discussion, so I'll shut up now.
