Black Deck of Amorphous Evil begat Black Deck of Insanity. Black Deck of Insanity begat Black Deck of Insane Evil. Black Deck of Insane Evil begat Black Deck of the Empty Grave...

And that is what you faced, good Solenoid...

By Bryan (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

I liked the red deck and the blue deck, and well the slivers deck was good too. Fred, I must commend you on your deck contruction abilities...

By Who yo Daddy? (Sol) on Unrecorded Date:

Choufie! Yes, very scary!

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date:

Thank you. I try. Also, those decks have remained fairly untouched since, well, maybe a year and a half ago? Perhaps it's time to re-tweak them? Perhaps a reincarnation of Yoda? I dunno... So many ideas...

A multi is fun, but there is always that tenative time at the start of the game where no one wants to attack. Why? The first to attack is often stereotyped as the "aggressor" and then everyone else will start trying to take down this "threat." Then the "aggressor" is in a real spot, often in a 3-against-one situation, and is forced to basically continue the all-out-attack or else become docile and simply die in the flurry of vengence. Agh! A multi-player can be a very delicate thing. Likewise, the weakest (worst defense or no-defense) player is usually attacked by everyone FIRST. Why? You get to DO something, and chances are you won't suffer a repricussion until the weak player is destroyed, at which point it is too late. This is nasty, too, because chances are that SOMEONE will have no creatures out, and if everyone has weak 1/1's or whatever, they won't attack each other, only he who is defenseless, but again we get into that nasty 3-on-1 situation that can snowball all too quickly!

The only way to stop that 3-on-1 before it kills you is to somehow FAST get out a good big creature. Even if it never attacks, his blocking skill will possibly save you, although again, since you are pegged as "the enemy" by the other 3, it is possible that this Big Guy will be destroyed or incapacitated in some way.

Sometimes, the best way not to be the ONE in the 3-on-1 is to just have a great defense. Even if you're attacking everyone mercilessly, no one will touch you because they don't want to lose their 2/1 Donkeyboy with banding. So GOOD DEFENSE!

If you are one of the 3, the best thing you can do is jump on the bandwagon, but make sure that YOUR defense is up to snuff. If it isn't, you may be the next group target when the first choice is eliminated! Being kind to the current victim serves 2 purposes... gets you brownie points AND delays his death, using him as a distraction whilst you build your own defenses.

If you are the One, either because you're attacking everyone or because you are truly weak this game, the only thing you can do is try your darndest to take out one of your opponents as fast as you can. Spreading damage around the table won't help you, since it won't stop anyone from attacking you - if anything, everyone will want you dead even more! So if you at all can, try to take out anyone, and as fast as you can.

If you are the One, trying to enlist an ally from the table is not suggested - I mean, everyone will blame you for politics and who wants your weak-$#! as an ally anyway!? You're on your own, buck-o.

If you can somehow make another opponent weaker than you (defense-wise) this might also save you for a little while.

Thoughts on the multi-player environment?

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date:

Build a deck with a reputation--like me. When you do this, people will be reluctant to attack you at first, generally leaving you alone until it's too late. It's psychology. There have been many games where everybody was beating on each other, and just leaving me alone as I grew. Of course, I let the beatings go on, generally only choosing one person to attack. In this way, the 4-player becomes kinda like 2 simultaneous 2-player games. Sometimes, however, my reputation-decks spew out a creature which is just viewed as way too powerful, and everybody makes a combined effort to get rid of it before it even has a chance to do anything. Terrors and fatal blows and stuff. At any rate, just my 2 cents worth. Anybody else?

By 21st Century (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

I'm so happy I'm floating on cloud nine!

Me and big D went to Twilight games this weekend. Sorry Rochester gaming stores, you have just gotten yer a$$ whooped by a Syracuse store!

Me and Darren were so thrilled to discover commons /uncommons from ALL the known MTG sets were only
5 cents each! They had a ton of them too ! At least as much as milenium.

The only way Milenium has them beat now is in the selection of rares.

We also rented some anime from a cool anime/video rental shop near Darren's house in Clay.

Lothos War & The new Bubblegum crisis 2040 series!

I really want to start an anime colection.

By Who yo Daddy? (Sol) on Unrecorded Date:

Lodross Wars is one of the best, yes! Luke has it on tape... very, very good stuff. Looks like I have to go to Twilight and get in on the action!

By The Great (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

I am in the process of deckbuilding for the great
lev hangout of 2000.

A few decknames for you all to ponder.

1. Wildfire

2. Sliver Colony

3. Blue Flame

By Funk Sol Brother (Sol) on Unrecorded Date:

What's Sliver Colony going to be about?

Sol

By The Great (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

Well Sol since you asked.

Its going to be about Sheep!

Muscle Sheep
Clot Sheep
Heart Sheep
Talon Sheep

Sheep Tokens

Just a bunch of sheep.

If you get bit by the rabid sheep, you have to take -1 durring your upkeep phase as long as rabid sheep is in play.

By Funk Sol Brother (Sol) on Unrecorded Date:

SWEET! That is so cool! I have a card called Ovinomancer that turns any creature into a sheep as often as I want - maybe I'll make a deck around him! Cooool!

By The Great (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

You could Sol!. I still remember and cherish the time you, me and Jeff played those kids at the card shop in Buffalo. I remember the looks
on one particular kids face when I attacked
him with a 12/9 flying, trampling, mountainwalking mountain goat!

Ahh, who says you can't have fun with creature enchantments?

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date:

I enjoyed our little magic-fest. I especially enjoyed it when Jon got out the Lhurgoyf during that 5-player battle, and it was like, a 20/21 beastie. I also enjoyed stealing Bryan's priest of Gix from the graveyard, collecting the mana, using it for a kewl, icky black spell, then sacrificing the priest of Gix to the fallen angel for +2/+2 and getting a +1/+1 counter on the sadistic glee shadow... Man, after like, 15 turns, those two critters were HUGE! And that poor priest of Gix must have died and been resurrected like 8 times. Poor fella. ;> Any highlights you guys wanna share?

By Bryan Cummings (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

Mmm... yeah those 20/21 huge creatures.
They helped keep pestilence around long enough to do lots of damage each turn without fear
of wiping out ALL the creatures on the board. :)

Circle of Protection Black + Pestilence is an old but good combo in a black/white deck. Against a pure black or red deck it can be devistating.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date:

Yeah, thanx. And you complained when I used your slivers to my advantage--my slivers were the victorious ones! ;> Thanks for that victual sliver--when you trampled on over to my side, all I had to do was sacrifice my metallic sliver and gain 4 life--after all was said and done, you saved my life, really! THANX! ;>

By Bryan Cummings (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date:

You speak of two different games. :)

You are refering to the game where we played my slivers vs your slivers. Ahh yes that was good.

But to set the record straight. I'm posting my win loss record for the weekend. This includes one on one games and the big multiplayer games.

Deck NameDescriptionColorsWin/Loss
Sliver Colony Creature Deck 5-color 1/3
Green Zoo Green Creature Deck Green 1/1
Pestilence Lord Spell/Creature Deck Black/White 2/1

By THE ALL POWERFULL (Knight_hawk) on Unrecorded Date:

I didn't win a single game. Mostly because i kept getting singled out and thrashed on by everybody. Waitaminute that was Sol. I know why my deck was scrounged together from cards that were in my car and that hadn't been stolen. Oh well I found the cards in my room and one of them would like to say he can't wait for next time.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date:

I won some games--I played 3 with my black deck of the empty grave: it won once (they were multiplayers; I might also add that it never was eliminated first).

I played another couple games with Liquid Heat... It lost, but again, not first.

I played some games with my Sliver Deck, and it won twice (a single and a multi).

I played 3 games with the black deck of Evil, and thrashed Sol in five turns the first time, the other 2 times I played against Jon and Jamie and Damien, and lost both.

I think I played my green deck once, but I can't remember. Ah, well--the memory is the first to go with age, they say... I don't remember what the second thing to go is... ;> L8R!

PS--if anybody can remember what other decks I played, lemme know. Were they memorable games? I don't remember. BYE!
