Nat,
Wanted you to know that I actually listened to one of the CDs you burned me (long ago) called PCD. It made wonderful travel music on the way to Buffalo. Techno rules!

I've become hooked on a band from Finland called Poets of the Fall. You have to import their cd's but it's well worth it. I came accross them cause the song Late Goodbye was in Max Payne 2 and it was great.
If your interested their website is www.PoetsoftheFall.com you can order their cd's there but I'd recomend Amazon as it's a wee bit cheaper with conversion rates and overseas shipping prices being what they are.

Sweet! I think I might have to pick one of these CDs up myself. These guys are really cool and I don't exactly have a favourite band right now.
Although "Flogging Molly" is a pretty cool band... they sing punk and other hard songs with a blatant Irish accent, and sometimes they have a little whistle that does traditional Irish Jigs in the background of their music, too.

If you like Flogging Molly you have to check out Enter the Haggis.

Anyone else here download the latest radiohead album for free? I downloaded it today from the radiohead website, but haven't listened to it yet because I'm at work.
I think its interesting that they let you pick how much you want to pay for it. Since zero was an option, I chose that. I figure it this way.
If the album is good I may go back and throw a few pennies there way, otherwise why bother since I'd likely nuke it if I don't like the product.
Anyone care to review the album or weigh in on this?
By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, November 08, 2007 - 01:55 pm: |
Hey, why not drop this into the "Presents from the Web" section? I'd try it out!

Well, Sol I was trying to get people to weigh in on the future of music distribution and find out what everyone's take on Radiohead's brave online experiment. I wasn't so much pimping out the free music itself bro. ;-)
Will Radiohead's experiment to cut out the middleman record producers and distribution label prove commercially viable or will it be a bust if everyone pays what they want to pay for a album and zero dollars is a choice?
The theory they are going on is if you like the album, or the artist, you will pay for the music but that the music is more of a promotional thing to get you to come see them play live.
I think a consequence of this will be two fold.
In the not so near future live music will be a popular band's primary revenue stream. You will also see allot more product endorsements, and albums that do sell online will contain alot more goodies to get you to want to buy the 'non-promotional deluxe edition' of an album.
Who needs a record label and radio air time when anyone can publish online and release music videos to you tube. ?
It's a brave new world. Your thoughts folk?

In an ideal society, all information is free - as is all music, all art, food, shelter, clothing, and so forth. The reason we have laws is because people so far through history have not taken care of each other without some sort of an outside motive.
The evolution of the human species will be an event which will see an unfolding of human kindness for its own sake. In that society, people will do things as a means of fulfilling a need of society. It won't be for the money. Greed will be a thing of the past.
Of course, the first step in overcoming human weakness is to create a system where all people are cared for. If people can trust that they will be taken care of, they will have no need to steal from others, fight, kill, and so on.
Once basic human needs are taken care of as a given, people will be able to free themselves from the so-called need to live at the expense of others. In our current system (which involves money) a person's success is by definition at the expense of another person. Why? Because money defines how nice a life / how long a life you can live. And you will always have more money than some and less than others. People are not cared for in an equal manner.
Using the example of the RadioHead payment choice, in the ideal society, people who could not afford to pay anything would pay nothing and that would be OK. But people that COULD afford to pay would do so based on income. People that simply didn't feel like paying would not exist because in the ideal society, every person would take personal responsibility for his fair share. Someone who made more money than average would pay more for the songs - maybe $40 or $50.
Now, as the ideal society progressed, people wouldn't pay at all - because money would be eliminated. Money is a way of keeping score in life - me vs. you. In the ideal society, there would be no more me vs. you, but Us. There would be no need to keep score. If your neighbor needed something and you had it, you would provide it. You would not fear having nothing, because if you needed something, you would also receive.
This is the way the world could be. This is the way every one of us needs to become. Sadly, some people do not even treat their loved ones in this manner, let alone anyone else.
If you have that spark, then you and those like you would pay money for the RadioHead album according to your means out of gratitude that it is provided. It is a journey. It sounds as if RadioHead has taken their first step down this road. Who will join them?

Ummm, how about if they gave ME money for downloading their album? I think this would be the best solution. Then, I have the music, AND I can buy gas to get to work...

I know you guys are not really the type who like country usually, but this wasn't half bad. Check it out. I like the shatner cameo.

Anything with Shatner in it is pure gold! I also like the cameo he did in "Common People."

I'm currently listening to the Metalocalpyse Dethcklok dethalbum. If you like heavy fast metal you should like this, has alot of the songs from the first season on it like Go Into The Water, Awaken, Go Forth and Die, Fansong, Briefcase Full of Guts, Castratikon and Dethharmonic. Not all the songs on the album but I don't feel like typing out all of them.

I've almost mastered "Yellow Submarine" on my blue guitar now. Pretty sweet. Tried to download this sucker on iTunes, but couldn't - maybe Beatles Songs are TOO COOL to be available on iTunes, whaddya all think? There were about 1000 sound-alikes made by different bands, and even one by Ringo Star (I downloaded this) but as for the Original, you know, the one made by The Beatles, well, it was nowhere to be found.
Good thing I still have the Yellow Submarine VHS at home. I put that cartoon on and then I play along.
Sweet.

I got my copy of Metallica's new album Death Magnetic today and I have to say I am pleased with it for the most part. Musically it reminds me of Metallica's earlier album's and is a lot better than that POS St Anger album. However it does suffer from sound quality. I didn't notice it at first but after reading several reviews complaining about the cracks in the sound I started to hear it. Not Metallica's fault at all as it seems the music industry has been making the CD's they put out louder and louder making them sound worse and worse. Look up the "Loudness War" to see what I'm talking about. Still I'll be making my ears bleed with this album for awhile.
I'm also thinking of getting the vinyl as it's supposed to sound alot clearer.
