Greyfox:

Of course you are my friend. You are still a board mod after all. If you were actually online once in a while I'd chat with ya and heck try to set up a south-bound hangout or two. ;)

Knight Hawk: Damien, you know I gotta give you props too man. It's been too long since I've been downstate. If I can get a hold of derf we will have one again "soon". Well sooner then microsoft will release bug free software. ;)

Merlin:
You are allways welcome to set something up too bro.

Many of our members are still in upstate ny. We also have a loyal and important contingent in Eastern PA, and exclusive pockets of NJ and NYC.

We have folks all over the darn place actually.

Now.. as for the state of the board... well, yeah it needs some life put back into it.

I'm not a very big blogger or forum poster. To be honest, I work so darn much durring the day on my computer at work, that when I get home from work, the last thing I want to do is surf on my computer.

Ok.. thats not entirely true. I have been way into geocaching lately. It's a great game because it fuses tech with something I need on a regular basis to balance out all of the tech in my life, nature.

The koran probably has the same amount of flavor as a garbage plate without salt, pepper and hot sauce. Not to mention lots more fiber.

Anyway, hope things worked out.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, March 08, 2004 - 10:32 am:

Well we found out later on that the chinese take out place didn't pass health inspections (surprise surprise). Comparitively speaking I don't think Nick's is any shining example of hygiene :D

But I have to find a different chinese take out place. I already have a good mexican one and then there's the place called "A Salt and Battery" that serves up english fish & chips. But I need a good asian take out option.

Ahhh, it looked too complicated, so instead I scripted a battle in a cavern between 8 dwarven battleragers and 40 assorted ogres and trolls, set to respawn 5 times (so basically 200 assorted ogres and trolls vs. 8 dwarven battleragers). The dwarves won, but only after I put a single potion of cure critical wounds in each of their inventories.

I don't obsess. Much. At all. If ever...

Oohh thats what you meant by "Indy" for a while I thought u meant independent films. I felt bad for that guy in Raiders, after all he just wanted a fun brawl soe the love of sport, not like he deserved to be chopped up like that.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 08:54 am:

Prepare to laugh your arses off but I think I broke mine. It happened on Sat. as GF and I were leaving Jon's house in the lull of the raging storm and I went to jump over the puddle he had just stepped in. I landed on the grass but only on my heel which slipped and made me fall on my Butt. It felt find till last night and now I can't just walk without feeling pain. Ok let the laughter begin.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 10:32 am:

Ouch, sounds like you bruised your tailbone. Yah that will make walking painful. It happened to me a few times when I was a wee lass, learning how to iceskate.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 10:40 am:

I know you landed on the side of your butt, not squarely on your arse, but is the pain along the outer thigh, or around the tailbone section? Broken tailbones are not uncommon, I had one when I was like, 15-16.

The other possibility is a bruised hip/pelvis. It takes alot to break either of those load-bearing bones, so I doubt you did that or else we wouldn't have gone to the movie. A bruised bone is more likely.

Although I feel bad about your pain, it actually was REALLY funny watching you sorta slip, hover in midair for a moment, and then crash down into the mud. Almost cartoon-like, actually. I did that once in the shower--my hip nailed the edge real hard. I was in a bit of ache for about 2 days after that. Hope you feel better and all.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 11:43 am:

Not to get to disgusting but the pain is at the top of my Butt crack and I can't bend down much and I feel pain when I walk not too mention sit.

And I imagine it was quite funny to watch, one of those times I wish I had been having an out of body experience.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 11:53 am:

I am planning on going to the doctor tom so I'll know for sure then.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 01:03 am:

Yep, sounds like its your tailbone to me. But definately see a doc, an x-way will tell you for sure.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 05:27 pm:

okay, the other thing that happens in high-impact situations like that is that the tailbone, being a sharp little protrusion, cuts into the inside of your flesh there, causing an internal wound. Now, there won't be any blood, since the tailbone essentially tore a bunch of soft tissue away that surrounds it. This usually gets infected, and then fills up with puss, swelling a great deal and causing pain. Mine was about the size of a tennis ball, and I couldn't sit or walk right until I went to the doc and he cut a drainage channel and squeezed all the puss out. It smelled real bad, kinda like a dead carcass on the side of the road. Then he used a laser to cauterize the wound, and gave me anti-biotics to fight the infection. From time to time, if I do strenuous activity, a small bit of blood/gunk will drain from the permanent drainage scar, but that's a far cry better than having it build up inside and cause that intense pain.

Even if the tailbone isn't broken or bruised, this is not an uncommon injury. Hope you feel better...

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 02:25 pm:

Today I have accepted my defeat. Today is the day I surrender, I give up, I have nothing more to sustain me against an uphill battle.

I've just gone through 12 sketchbooks of art, and about 40 tons of art supplies, school notes, articles saved regarding 3D animation, etc. All of which has found itself shredded and in the recycle bin. The new media/computer graphics job market in NYC has been dead for a while now, I don't think it will ever recover. After 2 years of unemployment, and prospective employers beginning to hold my length of unemployment against me I announce that I am giving up.

Yes I am giving up on a career at what I enjoy, what I am best at, and what other have been so supportive of me doing.

From attempts to find a job, just a job to hold me over until I can find one in design, I've gotten 0 responses. These being jobs on alternate fields where a bachlors degree and a pulse would suffice. I suppose I am over qualified for those jobs, too.

The massive student loans on my back cannot be deffered forever, and I doubt my BF would want to propose to me know that if we get hitched the feds will come after him to pay them for me. Shite, I wouldn't want to marry me either under these circumstances.

Over the next few months (probably starting next month) I will be going to my local gym for intense physical training that will last 4-6 months. Luckily, my bf John is generous enough to pay for this. After which time (if I still don't have a design job, or a comperable one) I will apply to the NYPD. If I pass the written exam (it should be easy for me) and the two rigorous physical exams they will take me.

To those who would like to tell me that I'm crazy and should follow my dream no matter what, I say to them: grow up, following one's dreams doesn't pay the bills.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 09:09 am:

You should know that we'll always support and love you no matter what you do.

And just as an aside; I gave up on my dream a long time ago. :)

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 10:19 am:

Nat, I've always believed that in times of dire need you have to do what you have to do. But as far as giving up on your dream, DON'T. I never have and never will I have just put it aside for now until the time comes to try again. That time may never come but I'll never stop trying for it. If this means I have to grow up then I hope to be like Peter Pan and never do, and remember it's always the darkest before the dawn. Just my 2 cents.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, November 11, 2004 - 12:29 pm:

Ugh.... I am in PAIN...

I just started weight training yesterday. Had an appointment with a trainer to put together a weight lifting routine for me to do 3X a week. Yes, nat is seriously going to be doing weight training, I want to bulk up, luckily women will not look like Arnold if they weight train so I have noting to worry about. I did a lot of squats and lunges. My f#cking thighs hurt! It hurts to stand, sit, walk and climb stairs. My legs hate me right now. And to think I need to somehow motivate myself to go to the gyn and work on the tread mill for a half hour...

I was wondering if we have any running experts out there. I need to train my bubble-butt for a 2 mile run in 12 minutes or less. I need to do this in 4-6 months. My cardiovascular system is total crap. I got myself a heart-rate monitor so I don't give myself a freakin' heart attack on the treadmill. I've just started working on cardio after 2 years of sitting on my ass, but I try to get my ass on the treadmill for at least 20 minutes a day with the goal of keeping my heart in the range of 140-163 bmp.

I honestly can't run yet without pushing my heart into an unsafe BPM. Walking at a medium-fast pace on a slight incline has my heart rate at 80% of it's max (163 bmp).

I'd like to follow the "couch to 5k" program on coolrunning.com but the problem right now is that I just can't run yet. So... What should I do? should I keep the fast-walking up until my heart rate improves or should I maybe try jogging in REALLY REALLY small intervals with longer walking periods in between?

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, November 11, 2004 - 04:26 pm:

Somehow I mustered the willpower to got my ass to the gum despite the pain in my poor thighs.

And...................................................................................................................................................

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I RAN TODAY!!!

HOLY SH!T!!!!!!!!!!!!

Granted I didn't run that long, I was sorta experimenting while on the treadmill. But I think I found the trick, I nixed the incline on the tread mill and for the last 4 minutes I alternated between a very slow jog (reeeallly slow, slow enough where I could shift down to a fast walk if I had to) and a fast walk at a slightly slower speed. I was nearing the last 5 minutes of the time I intended to spend working on cardio and I figured "ah what the heck let me give this a try". My heart BPM never went over 165, which is close enough to 163 for me.

Best of all, I didn't kill myself doing it! I feel fine! I can definately see myself building off of this. It's so pathetic but I feel so g'dam happy right now. GO ME!!!

*happy dance*

By I, (Ranger) on Sunday, November 14, 2004 - 03:26 pm:

Go Nat. More power to you.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 09:23 am:

Thanks, it's very, VERY, VERY hard to motivate myself sometimes. I was in a lot of pain from the weight training, I was supposed to go to the gym on friday but it felt like my muscles needed one more day of recovery time- so I went Saturday. My poor muscles felt much better, so I did my treadmill thing and then did my weights. I didn't feel as sore the day after, so I think my body is getting used to it.

Running was a pain in the butt tho. Last time I tried to run but my lower leg muscles and my right achilles tightened up the the point of numbing pain (so I had to slow down, curses!). Strange because I stretched them out really good for 10 minutes before hitting the treadmill- I am guessing I was a bit dehydrated and/or my lower body is rebelling against the new level of activity I've adopted.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 09:59 am:

Yeah even spending longer stretching if the muscles aren't used to it they won't like it. Way to go though, your doing better than I am right now as I just think to myself I should rather than really going out there and doing it. Keep it up Nat.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 03:21 pm:

Well, I figure if I don't get off my ass I'll never be in shape for the NYPD physical exams. John is also nice enough to pay $$ for me to go back to the gym, if I don't go I am letting him down too. And I need a new career that I can take with me if I move :P

Just what the world needs, another liberal chick with a gun!

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 - 10:57 am:

I'll teach you how to shoot so you can ace your firearms quals, Nat...

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 - 11:42 am:

You and John's dad too :) That man has so much ammo stored in his house that if it ever catches fire BE SOMEWHERE ELSE! And I will take you up on that offer, Fred. What are the gun laws in NJ? Do they honor NY carry permits? Or would I need to get a NJ permit?

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 - 04:56 pm:

well, technically, we'd be shooting in PA, and you may want to look up the gun carry laws for the tri-state region... I know George could carry, but he was a FEDERAL officer, so I dunno what we might be able to do.

By Technomage (Houdini) on Thursday, November 18, 2004 - 11:47 am:

Good luck with your new career.

Which way would you like to go once you get into the NYPD?

I thought about it and you have quite a few possibilities with either additional training or your current educational background.

Uniformed Beat Cop
Detective -- Homicide
Detective -- Narcotics
Detective -- Special Victims Unit
Detective -- Missing Persons
Detective -- Internal Affairs
Crime Scene Investigator
Police Sketch Artist
Undercover cop
Anti-terrorism unit
Swat Team !
DARE / Officer Friendly / Community leader
Police Officer in a Public / Private School

I've intentionally left out meter maid because
thats a sucky job.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, November 18, 2004 - 05:54 pm:

Fred, I don't think I'll be able to take you up on the offer. I would have to get a licence in each state, and I would have to apply in person. That's something I can't really do. Bush signed in a law allowing all law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons no matter where they are- which is why George could carry anywhere, but until I get out of Police Academy I cannot.

Before Bush they had fucked up laws where not all states would recognize CCW's for police officers from different places. That was just totally stupid, it's like saying "Hey man, I know you're a police officer in New York and all, but we here in Iowa don't trust you can use that gun safely and not pose a threat to our community." So Yay Bush for signing that law.

The good news is that I lost two pounds so far, and today's run went very very well.

As for my cop career, should everything go as planned, I am honestly not sure. you have to work the beat for a couple years before you can move on up (I don't mind that at all), and certain departments are impossible to transfer into unless you know someone on the inside who can grease the wheels for you.

I really don't wanna be the police sketch artist, maily because that's becoming more computerized where they pick triats from a list and the computer does the "sketching" for you. Internal Affairs is a definate NO, all they do is criminalize officers who are pretty much justified in what they do even if it isn't pretty. I also most certainly don't want to join the NYPD to be a "social worker" of sorts, so the DARE thing is out, same goes for babysitting school children unless it's a high paying overtime detail. Meter maids aren't police, they are with the traffic department and aren't really "law enforcement" and don't carry firearms, most of them are wide as a truck (not like I should talk right now) and couldn't arrest a twinkie if they tried.

I'd really like to join the mounted police unit (long story) or the anti-terror department. SWAT/ESU is something probably I cannot do as far as I know; as a woman I do lack the muscle strength that they require and they almost exclusively hire ex-millitary (note: these guys are ripped like Arnold and can carry 300lbs while rapelling off the side of a building). They do a lot of the dangerous rescue work and have paramedic training. So until I can bench 300lbs, I don't think so :)

By I, (Ranger) on Friday, November 19, 2004 - 03:48 pm:

Stay away from vice and narcotics. Forensic requires heavy duty scinece going in for the most part.
I think mounted patrol sounds cool. There's you, your gun, and a 3/4 ton beast - that's a hell of a unit. We have a 16.1 hand ex-police horse where I work right now. Pushy bugger :)

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Friday, November 19, 2004 - 05:43 pm:

I loved horses since I was a kid. When I was 4-6 years old I frequently took horseback riding lessons. When I was 5 I spent an entire summer in East Aurora, NY at a horseback rididng camp called "Longacres". All you do there is care for and ride horses, I was in 5 shows total. I was so small the camp "powers that be" didn't trust me in 3 of the 5 shows and they insisted they lead my horse around the ring by a rope, which automatically put me in LAST place... The ••••••• assholes, but I'm sure it had something to do with liability issues. So they finally gave me the benefit of the doubt after a while, and in show 4 I got third place and my 5th show I got 2nd place.

I wanted to be a jockey when I was a kid. Then I got to be 5'8 and 200+lbs. So there went that idea.

Anyway, where I lived in the bronx there was a NYPD horse stable in Pelham Bay Park. When I was small they were more trusting of the community and let the kids feed/pet the horses that were in the corrals. I would go there all the time, but nowadays I think they've fenced the place off and aren't too keen on visitors without a badge.

By Not again (Norm) on Thursday, December 09, 2004 - 10:04 am:

Well, yet again the technology industry has screwed me over. My temp assignment was unceremoniously ended when they called me after work to tell me the company wanted to end it. I hope its because of the thousands of dollars they lost not getting an electronics cabinet out on time because they did it on the cheap.

And this is the problem with the entire high-tech industry. All the up-to-date clean and well managed facilities are being built overseas. So, now I'm left going from one dump to another. THese places are usually dirty and crowded with crap spread out all over the place. If the general public ever got to see what passed for the 'high-tech' manufacturing industry these days, they'd know America is on the way out in this field.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Thursday, December 09, 2004 - 01:13 pm:

that may be so in NYC, but travel to the 'burbs and further and you will see some spiffy high-tech places. Just flappin my jaw that the state of the Union cannot be determined by NYC alone...

I'm pretty sure no one know who he was but "Dimebag" Darrel Abbot who was the guitarest of Pantera and recently Damageplan was killed last night at the night club he and his brothers band were playing at. Apparently the guy walked onto the stage and shot Darrel 5 to 6 times and then shot the bouncer who grabbed him and then took a hostage before being shot and killed by an officer who came in the back door. In all 5 people were killed Dimebag the shooter 2 audience members and a third as of yet unidentified person.

Work-out updates:

Lets see, my weight is bouncing all over the place instead of going down, but I'm not worried about that. Weight lifting is going well with some good strength gains. I think my upper arms are starting to shrink a little bit. Good riddance, I am SICK of the "flying squirrel" fat I have on my arms.

crunches on the swiss-ball were feeling way too easy so my trainer recommended I grab a barbell weight and do crunches with that. They feel somewhat challenging again, yay.

As far as running goes, the aches and pains are starting to go away completely. My trainer showed me a lower leg/foot/ankle stretch that really really REALLY helped. I was stuck on part 1 of the coolrunnings "couch to 5k" program for an entire month because of the aches and pains alone. Now I am up to step 2 and going to start step 3 today:

5 min warm-up
jog 90 sec
walk 90 sec
jog 3 min
walk 3 min
jog 90 sec
walk 90 sec
jog 3 min
walk 3 min

I jog really freaking slow, but my heart rate monitor says that it's all I can handle for now. I'll start worrying about speed once I can jog for 20 minutes continuously without my heart beat going over 163 bmp.

On Jan. 3rd I have another fitness evaluation and a PT session on jan 6. Hopefully Amanda, my trainer, will think I'm ready to move on to some more challenging weight lifting routines.

Great job Nat!

That new jogging routine hurts like a motherf*C*er. After two minutes my achilles tighten up.

Happy Birthday, Damien. Sorry I couldn't make it to your shin-dig sunday, I was fulfilling familial obligations as well as christmas shopping.

I got you a present.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Monday, December 20, 2004 - 11:05 am:

Thanks Fred, Jon and I went to see Blade Trinity and then played video games. So it was fun.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 09:11 am:

did you send me an invite to a birthday dinner for Sunday the 19th? I got an anonymous text message on my phone that there would be a get together at "the barn" in Randolph. I was confused because it was from "anonymous" even though I have yer name saved on me phone.

Oh, and ummm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday of New Year's I am opening my house up to party/gathering-ness... Let me know if you wish to partake. Nat? Damien? Darren? Bry? Eric? Jon already told me he has to work nights that weekend. Poor SOB doesn't even have off...

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 10:08 am:

nope wasn't me. I don't text message it's easier to call and talk to the person or leave a meesage it is a phone for gods sake.

By Technomage (Houdini) on Thursday, December 23, 2004 - 11:48 am:

I'm on call that weekend and I got plans for new years eve night with Ellen. Sorry. :(

I've been working sick amount of OT lately. which I have been told is going towards a "Comp time" bucket I can claim later on in January. We shall see.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Thursday, December 23, 2004 - 02:56 pm:

Fine. You're no longer invited then. :)

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Friday, December 24, 2004 - 02:39 am:

sorry Fred, I can't make it either. Since John and I have returned from Vegas in time to spend xmas/new years with his mom & dad, where John will likely announce our engagement. So I'd better be there for that :P

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 09:30 am:

Congrats and all on that, by the way, Nat.
Good luck with it -- God willing everything will work out.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 - 11:34 am:

ty, ty, tyvm!

Right now John is sick with the flu, there's a chance we won't make it to his mom's place for new years. She'd got 3 cats and he's allergic, tha combined with the flu = bronchitis and athesma attacks galore.

So like, did anyone get some cool presents and stuff?

My aunt has migraines. Then again she's a total bitch so I guess in a way she deserves them.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Monday, January 24, 2005 - 04:55 pm:

ummm, perhaps she's a bitch as a result of the migraines, and not the other way around? Just talking hypothetically and all...

Naw she was a bitch before the mirganes started happening for her.

Things totally sucked on thursday, I didn't get home from work on THURSDAY until 12:15am FRIDAY morning... and I hadn't eaten since lunchtime. What's worse is that when I got home I couldn't eat anyway because I had a fasting bloodtest for glucose resistance scheduled for 8am friday morning.

So I get up and drag my dired, starving ass to the upper east side for this blood test... We start out with 3 vials of blood sucked out of me. Then the nurse hands me a small bottle of what looks like orange soda, but had a medical label. "Drink this and in an hour we take more blood, then wait another hour and take more blood...". Luckily the orange stuff didn't taste too bad, it did taste like orange soda but it had an odd flavor to it. 2.5 hours later, and minus 7 vials of blood I had to get something to eat and then head back to work. Yay...

I was feeling woozy due to lack of blood :)

I finally got home at a decent hour from work on friday night. 6pm check-out is considered going home "early". John made a nice dinner of salmon fillets, couscous with saffron and orange peel (orange peels removed after cooking), a large salad with my favorite home-made lemon/olive oil/mustard vinegarette and the same bottle of wine we drank on the day we first met. And then he give me a sweet valentines day card and a zen micro :D

By I, (Ranger) on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 - 03:13 pm:

I had to drink that shite when I was preggers. To this day I still can't drink orange soda with out gagging. Sympathies.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - 08:43 am:

It's wierd stuff, yo. That aftertaste really starts to get to ya; for those who haven't suffered through it yet, it's like a funny medicine/semi-stale taste. Then you notice your throat is starting to fight you each time you take a sip... Like your trachea is screaming "NOOOOOOOO!!!!"....

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, March 03, 2005 - 05:26 pm:

Great, just great. The diagnosis is borderline insulin resistance, along with the suspicion of PCOS. Need more tests of various sorts to confirm or deny PCOS- how much more blood do theyneed to take to actually figure out what's wrong with me? Good thing I don't want to have kids right now. all this explains a lot about why I have a hard time losing weight.

By I, (Ranger) on Saturday, March 05, 2005 - 01:15 pm:

Just show up with a bucket full - I'm sure that'll do 'em

Its a summer thing. This place is slow anyway but summer zaps this place down to the Bayou on a 100* day at 100% humidity. Nothing moves....

By Life is a box of soft brown things (Norm) on Friday, July 08, 2005 - 03:32 pm:

Here's a question. You know, if anyone is still here. Where is everybody now?

Sometimes, I think of people here as being in Rochester, but I've come to realize that's not only the case. I'm considering the idea of moving out of the economic cesspool of Oneida county to somewhere with better job prospects or at least better weather.

By I, (Ranger) on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 - 12:42 pm:

I think that what we need here is an upgrade. Some new stuff or something to catch everyones interest...

Let me see what I've got and we'll see if we can get people coming around again.

One thing we need is some new blood.
All online comunities are based on a few core people who really like posting.. You get enough of those types making content, the lurkers will start posting, then you growth in membership because hey, everybody is posting and, wow new posts to read today!

Why did the original lev society work so well?

I had loyal, bored, college students at its core.

You can't have people who work 70 hours a week
as your core community group making the huge volume of posts. We don't have the energy.

We need the bored 18 - 23 year olds who have nothin better to do then to post.. and post alot.

Ya dig?

Anyone here still have connections to RIT... besides paying a studnt loan check to them every month?

By I, (Ranger) on Sunday, August 13, 2006 - 03:55 pm:

I never had a connection to RIT save that I think my cousin attended a class there once :) I just know some alumni.

By PsychoHazard (Merlin) on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 05:31 pm:

I think part of what made the original work so well was that we actually met in person once in a while. We should do that again. Maybe do a movie night or something...
