I forgot to mention that I was in New York last Sunday. My family and I went to see the Broadway production of the Lion King. It was awsome, I highly suggest that if you can that you go see it. Some of the costumes were insane in the intrecicies(SP?) and the effects were cool. I'd go see it again in a heartbeat. The only problem I had was the fact that the seats were so close together my knees were crunched up against the back of the chair in front of me, Fortunetly I had an isle seat and could stretch my legs out that way.

Did the layout of this site change? Didn't the menu at left used to disappear when you clicked into a topic. I'm pretty sure it didn't used to hang out once we were in a topic. Am I confused or are you all Gaslighting me?

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, November 08, 2002 - 10:03 am:

ummm, I think you are confused. Been away too long. Topics at left always stayed there for me. Perhaps for a time you had frames disabled in your browser, and now that they are enabled you see the TRUE content of the site. Who knows?

Most of you have probebly already heard about the murders in Roxbury over hte weekend. The reason I bring it up is that not only did they work for the same company as I do they were my friends. Eric the manager was the then asst manager at Rockaway when I started. Then when he had to fire his asst manager at the Roxbury store I was asked to fill in a for until they found a replacement, this is when i met Jeff. I used to hang out at Erics place on Sunday nights to watch the wrestling pay per views. Both were shot on Sunday morning shortly after the store opened.

I would ask that you keep their families in your prayers. Eric was 26 with a wife and a four year old daughter, Jeff was only 22.

Indeed. Too silent. Depressingly this is the first post of the new year.

I do hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday, and made a resolution to post here more - if for no other reason than to entertain me on slow winter days :)

Be well all.

Wow. Well, I hope people still check back in here from time to time... I am officially going to begin attempting to organize some sort of hang-out, perhaps this weekend, seeing as how I have monday off for MLK day... Darren, Bryan, I know you guys have been tossing around some ideas here and there, so, now might be a good time to take action on one. Barring that, I understand Bryan will be having some free time coming in February. If you guys can get me dates and stuff I can see about having some time off. See the gaming section for my review of a couple newer games. I also will attempt to post a correction in the storyboard topic for Eric (as per a request from Darren). other than that, I been workin here at work to get work done, ya know, and am currently being considered for a promotion as well as additional moolah as a result. But so far, my work has been rewarded with more work, but I am slowly slithering up the ladder of responsibility. So, let's try to breathe life back in here, see if we can't get back to some semblance of the past here... Talk to y ou all soon...

RE: Hangouts...

Yes, it is confirmed. Darren and I will be journeying to Fred & Brenna 's pad this weekend with additional trip(s) likely to be planned in the near future.

Nat, if you are available for hangout for part of this coming weekend, stop by or set up a time for "the crew" to come visit you.

RE: Lev board..

I'm going to try and post more. I urge the other "regulars" who are lurking to post more also. I won't name them by name, but THEY know who they are.

One lives near the Bay Bridge and drives a car that does not fear snow.

Another lives near NY thruway exit 43 who quietly builds a being that is neither flesh nor robot.

This is but a sample... post my friends... post and live happy lives. Posting not only makes other people happy, it makes your life better by giving you a purpose, a goal, and it makes your breath minty fresh!*

*We really can't back that one up.

My uncle sent me this in an email. It was from a "friend of his" I'm not sure of its validity since he did not properly site his sources for the information, but it is still food for thought.

My uncle also added his own comentary at the end of the article.

Bryan

Hi, A friend sent this to me, and I did know about it, but I thought it worth passing on. But I could not resist making an OBSERVATION AT THE BOTTOM.

Subject: PLASTIC WRAP IN THE MICROWAVE (Don't Use!)

As a seventh grade student, Claire Nelson learned that di(ethylhexyl)
adepate (DEHA), considered a carcinogen, is found in plastic wrap. She also learned that the FDA had never studied the effect of microwave cooking on plastic-wrapped food. Claire began to wonder: "Can cancer-causing particles seep into food covered with household plastic wrap while being in the microwave?" Three years later, with encouragement from her high school science teacher, Claire set out to test what the FDA had not.

Although she had an idea for studying the effect of microwave radiation on plastic-wrapped food, she did not have the equipment. Eventually, Jon Wilkes at the National Center for Toxicological Research in Jefferson, Arkansas agreed to help her. The research center, which is affiliated with the FDA, let her use its facilities to perform her experiments that involves plastic wrap in virgin olive oil heated in the microwave.

Claire tested four different plastic wraps and "found not just the
carcinogens but also xenoestrogen was migrating [into the oil]...."
Xenoestrogens are linked to low sperm counts in men and to breast cancer in women. Throughout her junior and senior years, Claire made a couple of trips each week to the research center, which was 25 miles from her home, to work on her experiment.

An article in Options reported that "her analysis found that DEHA was
migrating into the oil at between 200 parts and 500 parts per million. The FDA standard is 0.05 parts per billion."

Her summarized results have been published in science journals. Claire
Nelson received the American Chemical Society's top science prize for

students during her junior year and fourth place at the International

Science and Engineering Fair (Fort Worth, Texas) as a senior. "Carcinogens -- At 10,000,000 Times FDA Limits"

On Channel 2 (Huntsville, AL) this morning they had a Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle Hospital on the program. He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital. He was talking about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxins into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Dioxins are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies.

Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results without the dioxins. So such things as TV dinners, instant simian and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper.

Just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He said we might
remember when some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

To add to this: Saran wrap placed over foods as they are nuked, with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food. Use paper towel instead.
------------------------------------------------
My uncle's comentary:

Hi (friend),

Yes, I've know about this, and this is why I do use Corningware (and no plastic), but it is a good one and worthy of passing on.

In a similar health related issue can I also add that we put 51 trillion pounds of carbon dioxide into the air each year primarily from vehicles. That we are significantly altering the balance of gases in the atmosphere. That the amount of oxygen on the planet is decreasing. (Every gallon of gas makes 20 pounds of carbon dioxide, and to make CO2 you take one molecule of carbon and join to it two molecules of oxygen. So, bye-bye oxygen.) Thus, for every gallon of gasoline burned, over 400 cu. ft. of "free" oxygen is consumed. And if people think the trees will convert the CO2 all back to oxygen, think again. It's too much. Besides, we are reducing the number of trees. The amount of CO2 is rising, and the oxygen IS decreasing.

To put it in single car perspective, an adult only requires about 20 cu. ft. of "free" oxygen per day. A car traveling at highway speeds consumes about 20 cu. ft. of free oxygen per minute. In the first six months of life, a baby consumes about the same amount of oxygen as burning one gallon of gasoline.

Now, I'm not saying we need to fear anything, but maybe we should consider our purpose. If our purpose is to eliminate human life from earth, we're right on track. ... So . . . do we even want to be burning any of anyone's oil? Or do we wish to start returning to nature's original balance? (Just my observation; I am no longer criticizing, just observing and choosing.)

(And yes, I still drive my car, but I've significantly reduced the number of trips, combined trips, and I do plan on getting a "green" or "much greener" car very soon, or not have one at all if possible.)

Peace

------------------------------------------------

Bryan's Comments: My other car is a Sherman tank. ;-)

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 11:19 pm:

Actually, this is another scare-tactic put forward by the liberals saying we're killing mother earth. If we were consuming so much oxygen that could not be replaced, we'd have already run out by now. Also, try watching the Discovery Channel. there is a layer of sherbet-like frozen material at the bottom of the ocean that is so high in methane gas that if 10 square feet of it broke free and bubbled to the surface, more methane is produced than all the cars in europe put together. people say that all these gases are too much for good old mother earth to handle. Boy, are they making themselves so self-important. As prolific as we as humans are, we have not yet significantly altered any of the atmospheric makeup of the earth. The hole in the ozone layer? That has been there for millennia, and it will be there for more. people say all the Carbon Dioxide we are releasing into the air is bad and is causing global warming and will eventually (but SOON) melt the polar ice caps and flood the earth. Actually, it has been proven that the opposite is true. the higher the carbon dioxide count, the more likely we are to have an ice age. in fact, the earth goes through cycles of ice ages and non-ice ages. Scientists actually believe that we are currently on the verge of entering another ice-age, but not through any actions or abuse of humanity. It's just earth going through her natural, cyclical existance. Nature will always find a way. What happened to the dinosaurs? they evolved too much and specialized too much to become adaptable to earth's changing environments. POOF, gone. If we start messing things up too badly, the same thing happens to us and we are replaced by the next dominant species. I know it strokes our egos to think we are having such a huge impact on earth, but I gotta be honest with you all... that's a totally self-centered, self-important, egotistical, control-freak attitude that it borders on ridiculousness. honestly, if we were having that huge an impact on the health of earth, of the total global ecosystem, we'd be dead already. Earth is a resilient planet. Don't get me wrong, there have been some total ecological disasters, both natural and man-made. Chernobyl, Exxon-Valdez, the oil-fires in Kuwait during desert storm, the seasonal wildfires in Yellowstone/Yosemite... the destruction and damage caused by these events, in the grand scheme of things, actually don't even amount to the ripples caused on a still lake surface when a mosquito lands on it. Anyway, I am rambling again kiddies. Bottom line: Don't believe everything you here, cuz most of it just ain't true. Peace. :)

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, May 01, 2003 - 05:12 pm:

Yeah we will be ok Fred, but as a former ecology student I can assure you we have done a lot of damage to mother earth. Her resiliance is the reason we are still alive and breathing, however her miraculous ability to bounce back is frequently taken for granted by populations, most of which are lead by people who don't know a think about how the environment ticks.

What happened wth the dinosaurs is a very bad example. Yes, life did bounce back but it took millions of years for the earth to recover, and in the process millions of species were lost. So if we screw up and poison our homes, mother earth will NOT rejuvinate and adapt over night. This is where some people get confused and don't realize there is a long-lasting consequence with what we dump into the ground, waterways and pump into the air.

Luckily emissions and CFCs are being reduced since becoming aware of their detrimental effects. As for your CO2 info, there have been ice-core samples taken in antarctica that prove ya wrong. If I can dig up the info on that I will, but it's been a very long time since I read the info on that. Layers inside the ice are like a memory book of atmosphere samples through the ages. You can get a very good picture of the gas mixture, as ice traps gasses. The farther down ya go, the further in time your records will be. Acording to the samples after the industrial revolution CO2 in the atmosphere skyrocketed and climbed continuously since then. It was no ice-age precursor, as those happen gradually over a period of thousands of years. This spike in CO2 levels cosinsided with the industrial rev. and the aftermath.

The primary producer of oxegen is ocean plankton, seconds is green plants. Most countries dump their waste into the ocean as well as level their forests. If enough of this keeps happening, eventually (not now, not in 10 yeas, but when mother earth is so overwhealmed that she CAN'T bounce back overnight) we will have problems with oxygen.

However, as countries begin to modernize they aquire techonology and techniques for processing their waste (human, industrial, agricultural, etc.) and making it far less harmful or at least more biodegradable. The more they learn about what makes the environment tick, the less likely they are to poison their environment out of negligence.

So eventually mankind will strike a balance with nature. Even tho plenty of nations (in many cases our good ol USA) screws up in the meantime.

Anyway, where have I been?

Frantically looking for a job in NYC since being laid-off. Made a flash site to try and entice people to hire me (www.mindspring.com/~subcriminal/index.html check it and tell me what ya think). And fleeing my misterable, drab existance by playing Anarchy Online. Which is much more exciting than real life considering I have no money, no life and no job- or anything worthwhile(excpet on weekends when my bf John visits me *wink*).

If John doesn't propose to me in a year I will be very surprised, in which case I will end up proposing to him. Yeah, things are going well in the love department but little else.

Lets see, AO is great, im now and advisor in a little quirky neutral mercenary guild called "Elite Operations". We actually made it into the game's storyline (we were all like "OMFG!!!" when that happened). That all started because certain clan guild were raping our bases for no apparent reason other then that they could (clans outnumber us neutrals 5 to 1). Since clans are supposed to be united in the "FReedom from oppression and evil!! Down with Omni Tech!" they pretty much went against their faction values by hounding our bases without a good inciting reason. Despite being vastly outnumbered and facing a losing battle we still fought, to the very end, with out heads high flipping our enemies the bird while gasping our last breaths.

Funcom liked us enough to allow us to hire merc guards in the neutral capital who kill clanners on sight! Woo hoo! I enjoyed hanging out, eating some bronto burgers (tm) with my guild-mates shouting "WHO YOU DADDY!!!" as Ian Warr and his men cut clanners to ribons as they entered the capital.

Anywho, since then the guild has shriveled a bit. A lot of out founding members have gone inactive due to real life stuff. And I think the guild made a grand error with not screening recruits. Instead of filtering out people who would make good mercs, we were letting all sorts of people in who just didn't for the mold. And then they leveled up and gained voting power they pressured to take the guild into directions it was not created to go. Alas, since me and others refused to turn our merc guild into a soup kitchen for all new neutral players, many of the upstarts left very bitterly. And we are rebuilding the guild again.

Since there are no jobs to apply to these days (nyc unemployment rate is 9.1% atm). I might have to go as a freelance flash designer, but I have no idea how much web sites (with varying degrees of detail and fanciness) are worth.

So that's my life so far :P

And then I drove to Eric's and then to Mansfield and he, Jon, and I watched the Matrix, so I didn't get the chance to call ya. BUT, at least now I have your number on my cell-phone.

My buddy Luke and I made these fricking huge meatballs for a dinner party I'm throwing at my place tonight. As weird as it sounds I never actually knew how to make italian style meatballs. Now I do. :)

Nothing is quite like mixing up a giant bowl of ground beef, bread crumbs, fresh garlic, basil and oregano. Nothing smelled so good as cooking those yummy morsils in a big skillet.

I've been doing alot more cooking for myself lately, and I've been very proud of the results.

Also I've lost 30 lbs since July! I run at least three times a week and I cut back on eating crap that isn't good for me.

More to come later. Must get back to work now...

I don't miss garbage plates. I really don't see why people liked them so much. They were so devoid of flavor you needed a ton of salt, pepper and hot sauce to give it any sort of kick. Not to mention the insects and vermin scurrying about should be enough warning not to eat there.

You are better off experimenting with different cuisine, maybe indian, koran or thai if you want something spicy.
