So, that reminds me... What's everybody doing for New Year's and stuff? I gotsta work, unfortunately, BUT I may be able to swing a little gathering at my place, starting perhaps friday evening (Dec. 28th) and going until Jan. 1st. You see, I have off New Year's day, but must work New Year's eve. Fortunately, precedent has been set for early dismissal on such days as that (we got let out early day before thanksgiving and again then friday after)

IF you wanna do this, let me know, I must make arrangements. Brenna, unfortunately, will still be visiting her parents in NC, until Jan. 3rd. Lemme know, I check here regularly, and also my email. Byebye then! :)

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 10:11 am:

I'm going to florida to see my mum- leaving on the 28th actually =)

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, December 05, 2001 - 04:34 pm:

Well then, you SUCK. :)

I mean, ummm... Have a good trip? :)

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 11:15 am:

Uh, yeah. I'll be relaxin' on the beach with a nice martini while all the stupid people swim in the ocean and get bit by sharks. I had a strange dream about sharks last night. I was in a leaky tourist-type boat with lots of people and they were circling the boat.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 02:08 pm:

people circling the boat?

what about the sharks?

no it wasn't. It was cheezy.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 03:47 pm:

It ain't easy bein cheesy...

BUT, Somebody's gotta do it... :)

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Monday, December 10, 2001 - 02:11 pm:

Nat,

I was ADMIRING! your 3D artwork again - awesome! I am going to try to imitate by creating a 3D figure for my Computer Graphics II class. You are awesome! Say, if I can ask, what will the final purpose of your art be?

Not that there needs to be a purpose!

Sol

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Monday, December 10, 2001 - 02:12 pm:

And for some of you who know, my purpose will be creating a body for Lal. At last decent tools for C exist.

Sol

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, December 10, 2001 - 03:46 pm:

Thanks Sol, u r so kind =)

That model is for a 3D game character- high res for the cut scenes. Mind you this "game idea" is only in it's early "concept" phase. This is the second character I've worked on so far.

What kind of 3D software will you be using for your class? If you use maya (hard to learn) I suggest you learn to use SubD's, it's the best! If you're stuck with 3d sudio max (*blecchhhhh!*) then polygons are good for beginners. Use nurbs later on, as they're a pain in the ass. You have to do patch modeling in that case (EVIL!!!). Let me know if U need any pointers.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, December 10, 2001 - 03:50 pm:

oh yeah, here's a basic character design guide that you might find useful, Sol.

Gamasutra Character Building Resource Guide

It would help U get started. Gamasutra is a good place to look for 3D info.

So, how about it? Nobody got back to me about New Year's hang-outness. It has been almost 2 weeks since I mentioned it. Nat, I know you'll be in Florida, you are excused. Anybody else?

By Technomage (Houdini) on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 - 05:05 pm:

I'm not sure yet. I have a week off durring the christmas break but I may not be able to leave town.

My sister is due to deliver her baby any day now and the family is expecting me to be in the waiting room with the rest of them. We have a pool going to determine when my Nephiew is going to be born. ETA is anywhere between DEC 22-JAN 3.

I'm betting he's gonna be a christmas baby.

I may still be able to hang w/ everyone its just that the horizion is still kinda fuzzy at this point. If he comes early enough my vacation time will be free and clear.

If my sister gets her way he's going to be be the first baby born in Syracuse for 2002.

I can't wait till the little tike is old enough to play magic. =)

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Thursday, December 20, 2001 - 12:34 pm:

Uncle Bryan! he he he that's cool!
I'm thinking about taking full time classes in the Spring to hasten my graduation... mostly 'cause I am weary of having homework or class every night and weekend :P

After this (winter) quarter, I'll have 6 classes left plus 2 co-op blocks. So 2002 will be the year of my academic victory, oh yes.

Cha!

Woah - did anyone see South Park last night? Ohmigosh! It blew a fuse in my brain. Cartman tries to get back at this kid with a Chili-con-carnival with a despotic plan involving a pony.

The surprise ending had me screaming in insanity for 2 str8 hours afterwards.

Sol

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 10:32 am:

Wow, sure is quiet around here. It's funny - I always think of myself as being too busy all the time, too busy to hang out with my friends, 60-hour weeks and all that - but wow, I guess everyone else is busier than me judging from the number of posts! It is the Doldrums of LEV. Hey, where are all you guys I gave accounts to last week?

Hello?

Sol

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 12:07 pm:

It's tax time for me, Sol. I have to itemize everything. Plus I'm getting over a VERY nasty flu that's had me feelin' icky for the past two weeks. This flu I have knocked out half of NYC during New Year's week. The pain! the pain!

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 12:20 pm:

and then you'll all wake up sterile...
didn't we write a story about this or something? :)

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 01:48 pm:

Don't be sick, Nat! Get better! I heard that Jar Jar will have a smaller role in CLONES, and when he does appear, he will be an older, wiser, more respectable Gungan.

Of course, I heard this on MadTV

Sol

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Monday, January 14, 2002 - 03:20 pm:

Yeah we did write a story like that =)

Although if I wake up sterile it would make my life more carefree. I'm sick 'cuz I didn't get the flu shot I suppose. Now I feel icky and my throat still hurts after two weeks.

Jar Jar didn't bother me too much. I just accepted him as the "ewok factor" and ignored him throughout the movie.

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 09:52 am:

Another oldie but a goodie from the VAXMig topic:

Darkfox heard cheers erupt around him, and he opened his eyes to find he was standing, right hand extended towards the viewscreen, as if reaching for something. He also saw the asteroids parting before the ship, essentially creating a worm-track through the field. A single droplet of sweat ran its course down his brow and onto his cheek, and he found he could not move his hand. After taking a second look at the events unfolding outside, he wasn't sure he wanted to move it
at all...

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Thursday, January 17, 2002 - 03:00 pm:

My VAXMig Flashback for you today:"Ambassador," says the young woman next to him, "Please, can you tell me what has happened to Jarrah?"

Sol turns his head to look at her, a calm expression on his face. He offers her a smile. Ensign Bean is almost as tall as he is with short, dark hair and piercing eyes. Otherwise beautiful, she is marred by a large "R" which has been burned over the entire left side of her face. Her right arm is mechanical, crude, robotic, with only three fingers. A line of tiny metal probes trace along her neck and up the side of her head. She is dressed in a black-and-silver uniform - a heavy weapon of some description hangs from her waist, a bandaleer strap hangs over her chest.

By Kelly (Vampy) on Wednesday, January 16, 2002 - 12:07 am:

is there any way we could invent a new face here, like that smiley face here, but with the face with fangs? like :F' of course, with blood dripping for effect :P :D

i think you guys missed my point.. i meant.. the smiley face one the standard kind, that was posted here awhile back.. the one with the yellow face, the smiley face that we seee all teh time representing walmart. the kind we see y yahoo messaging... not the html version.. like you guys have been doing.. yeah, i know the html version :) does that famous smiley face, but see thats what i meant.. couldnt there be more faces created from html to "icons"?? like my face with face html= :F' for an icon.. wouldnt it be kewl to have a devil for an icon here, although i do see it in yahoo messaging.. :P

-vampy

By Yo' Daddy (Sol) on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 09:48 am:

Hey, maybe we can hack the board and change the Joe-Normal Smiley GIF to a little Vamp!

Sol

By Technomage (Houdini) on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 11:43 am:

Nah.. we could possible hack the board to ADD a new vampire smile icon when someone posts a :F but I wouldn't want to remove the classic smiley.

Actually we do have quite a few faces to choose from in our clipart library:

icon - formating command

- \clipart{happy} or :)

- \clipart{sad} or :(

- \clipart{angry}

- \clipart{lame}

- \clipart{crazy}

- \clipart{proud}

- \clipart{proud}

- \clipart{smile}

- \clipart{wink}

By Technomage (Houdini) on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 11:46 am:

oh and if you want the traditional asci happy face or frown you need to key it in like this:

:\char{40} = :(
:\char{41} = :)

Oh all the useless knowledge I know...hip hip whoopity do. :)

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 12:51 pm:

is there a way to associate ;) with with \ clipart{wink}?

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 12:52 pm:

We now return you to your previously scheduled discusion. :)

By Technomage (Houdini) on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 01:54 pm:

Fred: here is what I would have to do to hack the icons.

Step 1: Gain access to Sol's csh account.

Step 2: Hack the scripts which run the board.

Step 3: pray that I don't screw anything else up in the process.

Steps 1 and 2 might be a problem.

I just went to Gerrit's website, mainly because I was bored and it's really quiet here at work right now, and saw pictures of Gyllis, Sherm, Ewokie, TWINK!, Tas, RavenThorne, Gerrit, Sceadeau... Everybody, man. Even some old pictures of Bry. brought back memories...

Sol, we should do something to get in touch with all these past friends and see if we can throw together an old RIT-LEV reunion. Where there's a will, there's a way. It'll be fun I tell ya! LET'S DO IT!!! :)

Today, I was accused of being "like Satan".

See, I brought in soft oatmeal cookies with creme sammich filling between em. I offered one to my superviser, Peter, and he said "You're evil. You're like satan, with the things, and the tempting, although I don't think he ever used creme pies, but he should, because it would work."

So then, as he walked out, past my cubicle, he grabs one, and says "I hate you. You are my least favorite person right now" as he ate one of the yummy snacky-treats I graciously offered to share.

Was I wrong? Or does my boss now owe me his soul? Should this have been posted in the philosophy topic, or better yet, the humor mill? AAAAAAARRRRRRGHHHH!!! :)

Basically this woman got into a car accident and grossly exaggerated the long-term effects of her injuries in order to milk the system for a wad of cash. We only gave her what she was entitled to, which was some money for lost wages and pain and suffering for 8 months and no more- totaling 55k. Zip for future pain and suffering. She was asking for two million.

Blah, need dinner, must go home...

I saw Willem Dafoe on my way to work this morning... Which reminds me that I should probably rent "Platoon" on DVD sometime. I only saw the crappy TV edited version.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 - 11:04 am:

I saw "We Were Soldiers" last night. It is the very best Vietnam movie I have ever seen. Ever. Platoon is a totally hollywood fake in comparison. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of a good, old-fashioned, intense-combat, blood-and-guts kinda movie lover. My previous statements that this movie was Braveheart III: Braveheart Goes to Vietnam are wrong. Mel Gibson is an excellent actor and he was very convincing as colonel Moore of the 1st battalion, 7th mobile air cavalry. WOW.

Tonight I am going to see "A Beutiful Mind" which is gonna suck a whole lot, but I made a promise to Brenna that we were gonna see it, so I'm doing it now before it leaves the theaters altogether. Bummer. Like I really wanna see a really supra-smart genius flip and go insane, and end up in an institution with a lobotomy. Woo-hoo, what a story. :) Anyway, have fun y'all. L8R.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 - 11:58 am:

I'm currently testing out Nexflix. Not bad, cheap and convenient. So far I've rented "The Professional", "La Femme Nikita" and "The Usual Suspects". I liked the professional, Natalie Portman and Jean Reno were kick-a$$. I didn't like Nikita very much, after the sniper scene I thought the movie lost steam. My next movie is "the usual suspects"... SR research/inspiration mostly.

By Margravine (Ranger) on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 - 01:19 pm:

'Mind' sound like a laugh a minute kinda movie to me --- gads what were you thinking making a promise like that? NOT the kind of thing I want to blow many dollars on at the theatre, but hey....

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 - 02:23 pm:

But Fred has to fulfill his monthly chick-flick quota. Right Brenna?

Take it like a man Fred, it could be worse. She could make you watch "Beaches". Or worse yet, re-runs of 90210.

By Margravine (Ranger) on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 - 06:50 pm:

Oh, no it's no chick flick. We're chicks and it sound like nothing we choose to watch. It's an "Important Picture" i.e. "We Want To Get An Oscar Picture" I prefer my movies with no deeper meaning whatsoever.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 - 10:44 pm:

dude, the movie was a little over 2 hours long, but halfway through it, when I thought it would be over, it just kept going. And he doesn't get lobotomized, he wins the nobel prize. Nobel prize, lobotomize, hey they sounded the same to me. this was the longest 2-hour movie I ever saw, as compared to the lord of the rings, which was the shortest 3-hour movie I ever saw. Lord of the rings actually took less time to watch than this. It felt like six hours.

Not to say it doesn't have a FEW redeeming qualities. Like, I can see why Russel Crowe got nominated for best actor. and the movie does kinda suck you into his schizophrenic alter-reality, but--oops, I didn't just ruin it did I? Oh well, I can't ruin a movie that ruins itself...

So, in a nutshell, this movie is about an actual guy who is a genius and won the Nobel Prize for some economic "universal governing" theory that he worked out with the help of his imaginary roomate from Princeton named Charles. Halfway through the movie he goes nuts thinkin he is a top secret codebreaker for the government, and ends up in an institution cuz he can't tell reality from fantasy. After his psychotic episodes, the movie drags on, covering the last 40 years of his life, up to 1994 (he had the psychotic breakdown right around 54). YAWN. Brenna liked it, for some weird reason. Oh well. Goodnight, all. Don't go see this movie, unless you have to, and then try and take a nap after the first hour, cuz ya won't miss much if ya do.

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, March 07, 2002 - 11:53 am:

Yup, sounds boring to me. I didn't get to watch "the usual suspects" last night 'cuz I was totally DRAINED from spinning class. My instuctor is a sadist, she's very cool. Nevertheless, my legs hurt and I'm dehydrated.

Mmmmmm... Gatorade...

I just got my bellybutton pierced last night. Didn't hurt much, just a short needle-prick sensation- like getting a shot at the doctor's office. Getting my tattoo was a million times worse than this.

The guy who did the piercing had stretched earlobes, a million tattoos and piercings, shaved eyebrows (to show off the tattoos on his face), dreadlocks down to his knees and all of his front teeth were filed into vampire fangs! Just your typical St. Mark's place archtype =)

Well my comrades, wish me luck. I have taken it upon myself to sue the pants off the nursing home that allowed a simple bedsore on my grandfather's foot to evolve into gaping, gangrenous wound (which lead to a femoral amputation). Quite a story, I'll tell it to ya sometime. But for now I get to call every ambulance chaser in Manhattan and select one to represent my family.

Ah man, when it rains it pours. My slimy landlord is trying to evict me as if he thinks I don't know my tenant rights. The situation is as follows, more or less-

Landlord: "You have ten days to pack up and get the f**ck out, or we take you to housing court to set a date with the city marshall."

Me: "Can you say 'succession rights' and 'rent control'? Not to mention I pay my rent on time. It would be illegal for you to throw me out. So why don't you blow me."

Landlord: "We're still gonna try to evict your ass."

Me: "Tell that to my lawyer."

Landlord: "............."

Me: "Yeah, that's what I thought. Now pi$$ off and leave me alone or my lawyer will wipe his arse with your face."

Ah well, it's New York. All the landlords are shady over here. Gotta love it.

PS - I am working on a head model, it is HARD! How did you do such a good job? I'm going to try a new tool today, noses are difficult. I was admiring your work on your female character again today, chowza! Wish me luck, I'll show examples when I have something to show!

Sol

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Thursday, March 21, 2002 - 06:58 pm:

Sol,

Yeah, pretty much- but worse! My apartment is HUGE for a pad in Manhattan, we're talking prime real estate. So what that creep plans to do is kick me out so he can renovate my large apartment into TWO teeny, tiny studio apartments and rent them out. Since there's a major housing shortage in NYC he'd charge an ungodly amount and get away with it. He'd be making at least FIVE TIMES what he's getting in rent from me!

He's still going to try and evict me but it won't work. Over here the landlord has to go through a lengthy housing court process to get permission to kick a tenant out. Those with rent controlled apartments (that would be me!) have a little extra protection under NYC housing laws. If you know your rights, and if you're in the apartment legally they can't do a damn thing except waste your time. However, in my case the Landlord is a d!ckhead and is going to drag me through court anyway. His lawyer is relying on the assumtion that I don't know what my rights are. I'll have him eatin' crow in no time.

About your modeling woes- do not despair! Yes, modeling the face is extremely hard! Even us 3D pros have a difficult time! This is why pixar and ILM frequently make clays model of their charcaters characters and then scan them with a special lazer pen to translate the clay model into 3D! CHEATERS!!!

*ahem*

However, I'd do the same damn thing if I had the equipment and a tight deadline. Shame on me!

Okay- here's some advice. Got to the RIT library and get a book on human anatomy for artists. There should be pics of nekkid people and detail of the facial features. It will certainly help you tremendously if you have a reference like that to look at while you model in 3D.

Watch out, I'm gonna give you some advice they don't even give you in art school (unless you are very, very lucky):

The basic human proprotions are as follows:

1) The human body ranges between 6 1/2 to 8 equal units of length. I tend to use 8. One unit being equal to ONE HUMAN HEAD LENGTH.

2) the shoulders are equal to two times the width of a person's head.

3)the shoulder begin HALF of a head-length from the bottom of a person's chin.

4) the belly button is EXACTLY three head-legths down from the top of the head, and marks the wastline (generally). It is also EXACTLY equal to where your elbows come down. This is an excellent way to make sure the upper-arm is properly proportioned.

5) The grion (naughty!) is EXACTLY 4 heads down- the halfway point for the entire body length.

6) The ankles start a little below the 7th head length.

7) the knees are EXACTLY halway between the groin and the ankles.

8) The arms are a long as the distance between the middle thigh up to the shoulders- remember that the elbows are the legth between the shoulder and the belly-button.

Proportions of the face for the adult head (general)

1) the head is egg shaped, Divide the legth of the head into thirds. The top third is where the eyebrows are. The second theird is where the tip of the nose is. The last third is the tip of the chin.

2) A human head is FIVE eye-lengths WIDE. In the adult face the eyes generally rest slighly above where they head divides in half horizontally.

3) The width of the nose is one eye-length wide, the edges should line up with the inside edges of the two eyes.

4) the ear length starts at the same third where the tip of the nose begins and extends up to where the eyebrows are.

5) For the mouth: divide the length between the tip of the nose and the chin by THIRDS. The place where the mouth/lips part in two is where the TOP THIRD is.

Here is a pic, which I have tried very hard to make very small in file size, but is neccessary to make what I said click. It's not a good sketch (not supposed to be), just supposed to be a basic quick reference. I hope 26kb is OK.

Good luck sol! Let me know if this helps!

Thanks, Nat! That's a BIG help and exactly the knowledge I needed! Say, do you know of a good rendering tool? I figure I am going to try to distort a sphere to make the head, but some of the tools (free!) I've tried so far are hard to use for newbies like me. I liked Draw3D, but I just couldn't seem to get the nose straight.

Nat, yer awesome! I love dabbling in your field - I'll settle for a result 25% as accurate as yours, you R da bomb!

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Friday, March 22, 2002 - 11:50 pm:

You got that Right, Faye! =)

I have never met my landlord, and I'm quite glad. Actually, my landlord isn't really a landlord. A different title is neccessary for such base, lowlife scum: SLUMLORDS, The lowest of the low in the class of real-estate owners.

Anyway, I had an extended meeting with my lawyer today. He said I've got an airtight case, and that the landlord is wasting his time (whether he realizes it or not), and hoping I'll turn tail and run or screw up my case in some way. Well, I ain't running, and the latter scenario is impossible since my lawyer has kicked-slumlord-arse for the past 20 years.

But as for the illustration for the SR book- I'd love to but I don't think I'll have enough time. I already owe Fred a couple of character illustrations and I haven't had the time to finish those =(

I need to win lotto, a BIG chunk of cash to I can be bored and rich. Then I'll have as much time I want to do whatever the hell I please!! MUAHAHAHAH!!!! Oh well, back to reality =[

Sol-

Thanks Sol! No prob. As far as free rendering tools go I don't know of any good renderers. I work mostly with Maya. Renderman is a good renderer- but it's not free.

The SGI lab in the Gannett building has Maya and Houdini- as long as there isn't a class in there you can use the computers.

I also have a VERY good website for you to check out:

3Dlinks

Lots of tutorials and info on different 3D software. I would check out the tutorial section if I were you, many people have posted neat tricks on modeling a head from a sphere. That's the easiest way to start. NURBS patch modeling is a method that's really tough to do and a spaz to rig for animation, but it looks nice if you can pull it off. However, you can't exactly make a hole in a NURBS surface without making the model very heavy. Polygons are easier to punch holes in, but it's a pain in the ass trying to maintain smooth surfaces. Subdivision surfaces ("subDs") RULE. They have all the surface-smoothing advantages of NURBS, but the ease of use similar to polygons. As far as I know Maya, Softimage, and Lightwave (I think) have subDs. I don't know about Houdini or 3D Studio, but out of the two I think Houdini is MUCH better.

Off to bed for me.. Tired, so very tired....

This place is sucking the life right outta me, draining my will to live. Making me apathetic about everything. To think, Jon is going to gamesday on saturday, and I'm not, simply because I could care less... I wake up every day and wonder if I would be less bored going to work, or sitting around the house doing nothing, and usually I decide to go to work, simply because there's a paycheck involved. I get home in the evening, and wonder how I'm gonna fill the time between then and going to sleep, and usually gravitate toward my computer, which isn't entertaining me, merely spending time. I never get to see Brenna anymore, cuz my schedule is so messed up, and there's no relief in sight since the july schedule is gonna be the same as june. I can feel myself getting dumber by the day since I'm not learning anything new and there's no openeings for me to move up into. I'm forgetting more and more about normal computers everyday, and my brain is being numbed into the simplistic land of Macintosh. This sucks. I really want out. When you get to work, strip out of your pants and underwear and just go about your normal daily work routine and act as if everything is normal. Then wait for someone to notice "Hey, where are your pants?"...

That should get you fired really quick.

Today is my first day back at work since the 3rd. I was in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands until yesterday. It was really nice. There's an island for sale out there for only 20 million! We can build VAXLandia! :) The problem is getting the 20 million, and then the other millions to build up the water reclamation facility, resorts, housing, docks, helipad, power facility, etc etc etc...

By Ms. Vice (Nat) on Tuesday, July 09, 2002 - 12:48 pm:

How big was the island? Other things to worry about are importing food, hurricanes and beach erosion.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Tuesday, July 09, 2002 - 04:48 pm:

I don't think it had much of a beach... mostly it was edged with cliffs. These are all volcanic islands, long dead calderas punching up through the waterline. I didn't actually see the island itself, just heard that one of the smaller ones was for sale. as far as hurricanes are concerned, you can build hurricane-proof buildings, no problem. And as far as food is concerned, you can grow your own, import farmy-type critters, fish, and you could always eat the indiginous iguana population!

By Starlit simulacron (Ranger) on Thursday, July 11, 2002 - 01:37 pm:

Early sailors were always dropping loads of pigs and chickens on islands they included in their routes so they would have a ready source of food that could largely take care of itself in the interim. That way they only had to eat each other occasionally. "And I alone survived..."

By Vengence is Mine (Knight_Hawk) on Thursday, September 05, 2002 - 07:55 pm:

I was just sent this by an old friend.

The following was said to be written by a dentist in Australia.

>> An American

>> "You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So I just thought I would write to let them know what an American is, so they would know when they found one.

>> An American is English, French, Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani, or Afghan. An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American is from the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each man and woman to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need. When Afghanistan was overrun by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country. As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. The best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best athletes.

Americans welcome the best, but they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America. Some of them were working in the Twin Towers in the morning of September 11, earning a better life for their families. [I've been told that the people in the Towers were from at least 30, and maybe many more, other countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.]

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American. So look around you. You may find more Americans in your land than you thought were there. One day they will rise up and overthrow the old, ignorant, tired tyrants that trouble too manylands. Then those lands, too, will join the community of free and prosperous nations. And America will welcome them!

>> Pass this around the World!

GOD BLESS THIS WONDERFUL NATION

One Nation UNDER GOD

To all who are interested:

I am organizing a paintball adventure for Saturday, october 5th. I so far have about 14 potential players just from work, and they are trying to get more people to come along. SO, if you wanna come play paintball and shoot Fred in da head or some such, lemme know, cuz I'll need a $10 deposit per person wishing to come. Overall cost for the day should come in under $100. Paintball = FUN!

Let us now have a moment of silence in respect for the passing of Richard Harris. Although Mr. Harris is an actor with a large filmography, he recently delighted kids by playing the charecter of Dumbledor in the HArry Potter movies.
