LEV FEST 2007

The Lev Forum: Welcome to The Lev Forum (Moderator's Corner): LEV FEST 2007
This Topic is for the discussion of the GIANT PARTY Greyfox is hosting at his place this year. Coming to this party? Chime in here! Discussion re: activities, gaming, and such? Right here.

Thanks Greyfox for making it happen!
By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Tuesday, October 09, 2007 - 10:42 am:

So yes, I will be there. I am taking off November 1 and 2. Should be a blast! I plan to bring Magic and Warhammer 40K stuff. Looking forward to this big blast!

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - 09:23 am:

I'm into the idea of playing a nice big game of WH40K. Anyone want to discuss point values? Will anyone be willing to challenge my Orks? Greyfox, how many players can your table hold? Would it be possible for our game to stretch out over several days?

If so (and if there is interest) we could play a REALLY big game. But of course, 2000 points of Orks tends to take up WAY more table than 2000 points of just about anything else.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - 10:00 am:

Well i can muster my Necrons for your orks to fall to if you want. I'm gonna try and get the new codex for Chaos this weekend so I'll probably dust off that army too. I'll post it's components in the game section.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - 10:58 am:

Knight Hawk,

That sounds cool. How many points should we plan for? I can do 3000, and maybe even 4000 if I squeeze. Warning: (This is an entire bookcase of models). I'd do it, though, I'm crazy! I figure a team game is the best idea if we have more than 2 players. Beyond that, open to ideas for scenarios, etc.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 12:41 pm:

I officially have received time off for the party. Woot!

By Houdini (Houdini) on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 08:32 pm:

I too shall look into getting time off for this parTay.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 11:07 am:

So here's my movie suggestion for our hangout:

ummm... ... mmm... ...mmmyeah...

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 01:36 pm:

Think of it as a sequel to the 80's hit, Mannequinn.

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 - 03:44 pm:

there was a sequal to Mannequinn. It was called...Mannequinn 2 :P

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 12:27 am:

I am scared you know that, Damien, but somehow, not very surprised... ;)

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 09:19 am:

Um actually I've never seen any of them. I just remember it from an article on bad sequals or something on Retrojunk.com

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 09:39 am:

Me neither. You see, the difference is that in the Mannequin movies, the girl comes to life, dances around, and sings and has fun and stuff. The same in Mannequin 2: On the Move.

In this movie, "Lars and the Real Girl," the mannequin is actually some sort of sex doll from the Internet who basically sits around the whole movie as we get to watch everyone pretend she's real.

Of course, we live in a cynnical decade. If it were the 80s still, she WOULD be dancing around and singing and stuff. But this movie is a reflection of a goodbye to youth and coming to grips with reality as it is.

Or so I say.

Mostly I thought it would be funny to see a movie about a crazy guy who lugs a sex doll all around town.

Ha ha ha, crazy!

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 11:53 am:

Hey Fred, don't forget to send me your address. This is required information for my rensesvous protocol.

!!
Sol

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 02:31 pm:

Rensesvous?

Heh random thought Huey lewis is on the satalite here at work and all I hear is the Wierd Al version. "I want a new Duck."

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 02:37 pm:

Ah, Rendesvous Protocol! grrr! So anyway, Fred, yah, send me directions, addy plz.

Sol

PS - Weird Al rocks. I added him as a friend on my MySpace page.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 10:15 am:

Nowadays Bryan's saying he won't be able to go on the trip. I feel it is all up in the air. Of course if we all worked on airlines, then it would certainly be up in the air, but a quick trip to Jersey/NY might not be a big deal (airline employees get to ride free, right?)

By Houdini (Houdini) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 10:26 am:

i didn't say i couldn't go.. i'm just not sure i can do thurs/friday.

there are some competing vacation requests.

I just took off two days for vacation last week.

Maybe I can be sick or something i dunno.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 10:36 am:

Good luck getting the days if you can! You know it won't be the same w/out you, bro! Sometimes I get all nostalgic for all the awesome road trips we've done. I have a new idea - let's have 2 days of work each week and 5 days of weekend. Then, if any holiday ever falls M-F (the new weekend) out of fairness it should be moved to SAT or SUN so people don't miss the chance to see friends, paint WH40K minis, or just unwind.

A lot of people would say it isn't profitable, but as long as you pay people 2.5 times more per hour (and consider 16 hours to be full time for purposes of health care, and so on) everyone would still make the same amount of money, so everything would be fine.

Good luck finnagling the days off, Bry! I'm cheering for you!

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 11:37 am:

Sol, I sent you directions via email, complete with a link to google maps with screenshots of where you need to turn and everything. Also, the destination is listed in there...

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 02:26 pm:

Hey Greyfox,

Thanks for sending it, but for some reason I have not received it. I wonder what address you tried. Could it just be slow email? I'll check it again later today!

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 03:30 pm:

Woah, hang on there - the message ended up in my Junkmail folder for some reason. I got it! Thanks! I have marked it now as absolutely NOT junk!

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 03:32 pm:

How embarrassing...

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Monday, October 22, 2007 - 01:45 am:

OK: at last check the headcount will be as follows: Starting thursday afternoon/evening will be Jon, Damien, Sol, Myself, and possibly Bryan. Have not yet heard word from Darren or Luke if they are available or coming, and also have not heard back from George & Vanessa...

It appears as though SATURDAY is going to be the MAIN EVENT, what with several of my local friends showing up IN COSTUME and rearing for a true HALLOWEEN BASH. These people include Brent & Sandy, Meghan & Joe, Liss & Paul, and Kym (who will be staying over until sunday). that means if several or all of those people want to crash, I'm gonna need a crowbar to squeeze them all in (but I think I can do it if the couples don't mind having a communal crash-space).

Also of note: The first weekend of the month is Kym's weekend to watch her daughter, Amber (who usually spends the weekend with her dad) so we MAY have a day or two in the presence of a 10-year-old girl. Just fair warning to keep the behavior appropriate during any child exposure.

So, we're looking at a group of at least 5 for the duration, ranging as high as 16 on Saturday night... Wowzers, this is quite possibly the largest non-family-related event I have ever hosted on my own. Here's to breaking records!

Oh, and those of you who remember my place in Elizabeth, and have not yet seen my house in Port Monmouth, do not worry: as those who already have seen this place, there is PLENTY of space for all!

As the weekend draws closer, we should discuss things like food, snacks, drinks, and other events. I already know a bunch of people wanna do the costume thing on saturday, so fair warning: bring costumes! I would say we could have a Guitar Hero championship (until that gets old or boring) and possibly do other group-friendly events, like huddle around the warm glow of TV and watch creepy movies or run around in the wooded sand dunes playing tag in the dark... Or, just hanging around doing whatever.

PS: bring cash or at least have available money from the ATM machines, I'm not gonna lie, Fred is poor (especially after this issue I am having with Verizon, don't get me started--suffice to say that as a result Mr. Fred was "inadvertently" charged over $900 between a mis-timed DOUBLE BILL and the chain reaction of overdraft fees that ensued). Meal planning will be on an 'as-needed' basis, but there should be plenty of food for all, between local diners, delivery services, and if we want to pitch in and have me fire up the ol' grill one last time this season.

Anyway, that's all the news on this front. I will keep us posted on news as it is revealed... Oh yes! I almost forgot: Jon has stated that he is willing to DM a D&D adventure on one or several of the days, if we so decide to play. For our northern brethren, our current adventure is in a world that I created, and Jon & I have developed together for a few years. This is only the SECOND EVER time the world is being test-played, and so far it is a very fun place... currently, our characters are levels 5-7, and use the AD&D 3.5 edition rules for character classes and prestige classes. Magic works a little differently, so if you want to make a wizard, you might want to wait til you get here, otherwise bring existing characters if you have them and we can modify them to fit in as needed.

Also, warhammer, obviously. Magic, obviously. I have several multiplayer "conquer-the-world" style board games, the classic PS2 games (Tekken series, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto... I think Jon has my copy of Soul Caliber 3 and my memory card (poke poke)).

OK, enough of me rambling. I should probably get some sleep. Ciao!

By Houdini (Houdini) on Monday, October 22, 2007 - 09:55 am:

It looks like I won't be there for the full four days, but will come down for a friday night - sunday stay.

Dueling vacation requests result in Bryan no getting all the days he wanted. But I'll be there on the weekend !

Bryan

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Monday, October 22, 2007 - 10:00 am:

Greyfox,

AWESOME! I am so looking forward to it. I am SO into D&D and I can play Guitar Hero. I'll bring appropriate gear to crash on the floor with and I will bring a costume also.

This is going to be incredible.

I'll start driving THURS morning, so expect to arrive sometime in the middle afternoon. More on this to come as the day arrives - ETA will be provided.

OH YEAH!
SH

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Monday, October 22, 2007 - 11:26 am:

Bry,

NICE! Good to hear you will be there for the FUN! Drive carefully - might not be the easiest drive at night, nothing wrong with catching a hotel on the way out or even just driving it at 6am. That's what I'm doing - 6am start time on THURS and departure SUN afternoon.

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 02:04 am:

yeah, last time I did the trek northwards from here, I think it took between 6 and a half and 7 hours. the 6am start time would get you here like, 2-3pm what with gas stops and foodage. Sol, from your language it sounds like it'll be just you? Anybody hear from Darren & Luke? I sent Darren a couple IM's and cell messages, but he did not commit one way or the other.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 10:04 am:

Yes, the Big D is an enigma - so I cannot say whether he will be in attendence - my gut feeling is that he will not be. As for Luke, he has suggested that he will not be able to attend - something about not having the vacation leeway to do it.

So yes, sounds like it will be just me on THURS with Bry showing up on FRI night. (He told me that Work gave him 1/2 day off of FRI, better than what he had before. Bry is a suave string-puller).

By Houdini (Houdini) on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 10:23 am:

Luke works on a job that they can schedule him on Saturday and Sunday's and often do schedule one of those two days or both. His job has rules about time off requests. He has to put in for vacation days sometimes months ahead of time, and even then its no guarantee.

Retail industry jobs are like that fellas.

My advice is if you want Luke to show up to one of these things, better plan them at least six months ahead of time, or more.

Alternatively, you guys could all move up to Rochester and save us the six hour drive. ;-)

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 11:01 am:

YEAH!

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 11:38 am:

Um no. Done retail so I know how it works, getting out of it was the best thing to happen to me (well career wise anyway).

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 02:36 pm:

I miss making an extra Dollar an Hour on Sundays...

"Can you work this coming Sunday?"
"I'll do it for a DOLLAR."

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Thursday, October 25, 2007 - 04:22 pm:

Ok officially got friday off so I will be coming up on Thursday night. :)

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Thursday, October 25, 2007 - 04:43 pm:

Nice work, Knight Hawk. We'll probably arrive at about the same time most likely.

Peace,
Sol

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 12:10 am:

hmmm... is parking going to be an issue? Damien, are you carpooling with Jon?

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 09:25 am:

Yes Jon and I are coming down in my Jeep.

By Houdini (Houdini) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 11:40 am:

Fred. Send me your directions to your place. I don't have your current email.

mine is Bryan.Cummings2@xerox.com

By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Friday, October 26, 2007 - 02:43 pm:

not sure of your starting point, so I will send you the same directions I sent Sol... You should have them in a few moments of me posting this.

By Houdini (Houdini) on Friday, November 02, 2007 - 09:27 am:

So what be the news from Lev Fest 2007?

By Houdini (Houdini) on Friday, November 02, 2007 - 05:33 pm:

On my way to lev fest. I'm at a rest stop near binghamton. Got the free wifi signal from across the street in nearby mall. Heheh.. I'm wardriving baby!

Anyway eta about 9 ish. Got a late start from roch.

Call my cell if you need to reach me. Sol has number.

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Monday, November 05, 2007 - 12:39 pm:

This was basically the best party of all time. Fred, you know how to throw a party. It was nice to see Jon and Jaime also. Knight Hawk, too cool to party with you as well. Metalacolypse is the bomb. So is Guitar Hero. You and 'Fox rule at that game. And who can forget our giant 40K battle? I'll have fond memories about that blowout event for the rest of my life. Models as far as the eye can see. Wow.

Anything cool happen after I left?

By Houdini (Houdini) on Monday, November 05, 2007 - 04:54 pm:

We watched transformers. Awesome freaking movie btw! Optimus Prime is bad arse as ever.

The crew (minus Knighhawk) played a brutally quick game of magic [Jamie played Jon's brutal slivers deck, its naughtier and quicker then anything Luke or Jen has I assure you]. Then the guests (myself included) said our good byes to Fred and Kym and headed for our various homes.

On the way back to Rochester, I made a brief stop near the Delaware water gap at the Jersey/Penn border on route 80 to do a quick walk on the Appalachian Trail (AT). Worthington State Park (State Forest) is right off the expressway has an access point to the AT and when I saw the sign for it I just had to stop and check it out.

I took a twenty minute walk which is probably the almost the shortest time ever spent hiking on the AT. The park was/is nice. There was a nice babbling brook and nice hills and some lovely fall tree foliage.

It was a treat to walk at least part of the legendary AT which is a nearly unbroken hiking trail that spans most of the Eastern United states. The hiking/nature trail spans an impressive 2,174 miles. It starts on the top of Mount Katahdin, Maine to Springer Mountain, Georgia.

The state park near the gap contains seven miles of this glorious mega-trail and I did probably 1000 feet of it. :-) The park has a campsite used by AT through hikers, and I would have loved to go check it out, but it was getting near dusk time and still had hours of car travel left to go to get to Rochester, NY.

The park looks cool and I bet it would be good place to camp and go geocaching. ;-)
.

So much to do in this life, so little time..

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Tuesday, November 06, 2007 - 09:54 am:

That's really fantastic. My ride home was smooth but fairly uneventful. Stopped in Wind Gap, I think, to eat at "Three Brothers' Pizza" because I love pizza. Ironically, I ordered a sub sandwich - Eggplant Parmesian, which was very good. I enjoyed this while reading my D&D Miniatures Guide.

Other than that, had fun talking to Angie on the new Cell, but ran out of juice with it before arriving home. Now I know that my Cell needs charging every 4 days or so. Got some nice pics of the party to be sure, and will post one or two sometime soon on the board.

Ate McDonald's French Fries and Apple Pie for supper. Not a bad way to go, really. Got home, unpacked, greeted Angie, that was basically about it for SUN.

Last night, hit the mall and got more Cell Phone Minutes, having burned off $10 in just a few days. Shall be more sparing in the future, methinks, but it was fun to test it out. Since I know everyone is very interested, I'll also mention that I purchased a new electric razor as well. After trying it out this morning, I can assure you that my face is indeed smooth as... smooth as... well, I'll just say that it is very, VERY smooth!

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Tuesday, November 06, 2007 - 09:55 am:

PS - Houdini, were you able to procure the blue Jedi Robes before departing? If so, I was hoping you might bring them with you tonight to Millenium. Though I am not 100% sure we are doing Magic tonight, I think we might very well do so, so I thought I'd put this out there while I am thinking about it.

Peace yo,
Sol

By Houdini (Houdini) on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 - 10:11 am:

Tony,

I have your robe. Patience my friend. I shall return them when I see you. However, last night I had fallen ill and continue to not feel so great.

So it may be a few days before your robes are returned.

Bryan

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 - 11:39 am:

That's OK, I am sorry you are not feeling so well. I am not impatient, merely a man of opportunity. But feel better, take care, our paths shall meet again.

Sol

By Who is the (Knight_Hawk) on Friday, November 09, 2007 - 09:37 am:

Heh I was sent home early on Monday cause I fell asleep at the lunch table. Then I had to call out Tuesday as all the weekends lack of sleep caught up with me and I felt lousy and slept most of the day.

BTW you blocked C.rap?

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Friday, November 09, 2007 - 09:50 am:

AWESOME! KNIGHT HAWK, YOU KNOW HOW TO PARTY!

Sol

By Sol Hawk (Sol) on Monday, November 12, 2007 - 09:22 am:
