This is a place to talk about the 3-D Internet, places of interest, and OTHER Virtual Dimensions besides the LEV Forum! Talk about chat-rooms, VR sites, and in general, ways to MAKE CONTACT with OTHERS on the Web!

I had to make this TOPIC to talk about Cybertown. After signing up, I started wandering around town and hitting the Clubs. There are HUNDREDS! Some are VERY popular, some are secluse, some are politically correct, some are not for the faint-of-heart, all are MEMBERS-ONLY. There's even a club totally dedicated to the ATARI, wow!
Like I said, you simply MUST go to cybertown. I'll report more findings soon as I continue to explore...

By Tony (Sol) on Unrecorded Date: |
I think what YOU get is already clear! Virtual Fun beyond your wildest dreams! What do I get? Well, when I refer new members, I gain status in the Virtual World. So come on - put a cheap thrill into my life... sign up and type in "solenoid" --- !
BTW - nice to see ya back around these parts, Big D!

I have now created my own Message Board within my Cybertown Home, the Sky Nexus. You may come by and see it at your leisure. I think you will enjoy your stay.
I have spent extra moments exploring the VAST reaches of my home Universe, and it absolutely takes my breath away when I realize how VAST this space is. And of course, there are 3 OTHER universes in addition to mine!

Also, the Cybertown Star Wars area is UP.

Shiny things always did distract you, young one... J Just kidding Sol. I, unfortunately, will not sign up with such a virtual world, simply because I have too many real things which occupy most of my time. This type of thing is as virtual as I get. L8R!
By Tony (Sol) on Unrecorded Date: |
Well, I appreciate text-based apps as much (or more) as the next guy, but the enjoyability factor of the shiny things is undeniable. Esp when it is free! Think of it as a game of Boulder's Gate with no monsters, no killing, and no actual game. I'm up to 95 experience points in Cybertown, and hope to reach 100 tomorrow. Ah, too bad my block leader hasn't approved my house's art-work yet! Soon, hopefully!
By Tony (Sol) on Unrecorded Date: |
Did I mention that if you join, you are automatically entered into a drawing to win your own MP3 player? It is a walkman-like device that you can load up with MP3 files. You strap it on your belt and away you go. Better than a CD player - it NEVER skips! Have to join in MAY though, or all bets are off
Boy, this sure is a tough crowd!

THANK YOU for signing on to Cybertown! I checked my status, and someone tried it out! Awright! A public thank you, to whoever you may be...

I was REALLY impressed with the 3-d world of Tekken 3. It is really realistic, and it is almost REAL. The next level of video complexity will be indistinguishable from reality, meeso thinks

cha cha Mirc rules. The "new" IRC is astounding and HUGE compared to what I remember in college. There must have been well over 1500 channels compared to the 200 or so I used to have to settle for. It can be confusing just finding what you want! The new Mouse-Driven interface is nice, too, as is the feature which auto-sets your nickname when you log-in. Unbelievable. Anyone else here play on IRC? It really is THE one. We should set up a LEV channel, like an Event, then all log into IRC on channel LEV at a pre-determined time. Cool, huh? That would only be trouble for those of us who don't have THAT easy a time getting connected there. We should have a Topic for that - or a little graphic that tells when the next IRC lev-hangout is scheduled. Would be nice if we could get some of our lurkers to join the discussion. It also sure beats a 1 hour delay waiting for a response!
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date: |
What 1-hour delay? By my clock, this is only about a 20-minute delay... ;>
By Bryan (Houdini) on Unrecorded Date: |
yeah and this is only a 26 minute delay. :)
Yeah, sounds like a cool idea. What would we call the channel?
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date: |
"lunch-break LEV-chat" ?
By Solenoid (Sol) on Unrecorded Date: |
We could just call it #levforum
easy, simple, and we could always use the same one. Idea - always join that channel when you get on IRC. That way, if anyone LEV wants to hang, the channel is OPEN. I don't know if I should really run IRC from work - also I usually go out 4 lunch - but night-time chat is going to be fairly common 4 me, I think. It is as easy as getting on IRC and seeing if the channel exists. Does anyone want to do one tonight? We should make an IRC topic to announce "special events" - designated meeting times on IRC. I'll start... tonight from 8 - 9, I'll log in under LEV-Forum. Official event- please all LEVers come!

No nights for me either.
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Unrecorded Date: |
Yes, but I'm never there to use it--and if I am there to use it, my parents are also probably using it. I need a PC of my own...

Talked to Jeff last night using Microsoft Netmeeting. It lets you have voice conversations right over the internet! It worked great for a while, until it crashed Jeff's machine. :>
I've used things like Cool Talk and Netscape Conference before. They all work the same. The trick is you need to talk in CB style because when one person transmits the other can only recive or
visa versa.
By Who yo Daddy? (Sol) on Unrecorded Date: |
That's cool! How much is NetMeeting?

Go ahead and skim this news article. Do you believe it is good for Big Brother to be watching you? Safety or breach of freedeom?
Sol
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 12:07 pm: |
Sol, Big Brother is ALREADY watching us. It's called the NSA. they monitor all telecommunications in the name of "national security". By the way, how you guys doing? did ya like the box of donuts I left for ya when I left for work this morning?
In all seriousness, I read that entire article, top to bottom. basically, it says the technology is already out there and working, it's just our willingness to accept it since Sept. 11th. Ultimately, it is the supreme court's decision whether or not the surveillance is constitutional or not. The technology is helpful, yes, but should not be relied on as the cure-all for our security needs.
