LEV Forum will soon be under new management. Not really, but it will be moving in the very near future. Some research needs to get done on my end, and after that, the LEV will be transferred into my care. What does this mean for our regular users? Not much, except that the address will change, so you'll need to update all your bookmarks. This is just a preliminary announcement; when there are final details, they will be posted here. KEEP THE LEV! ;>

Speaking of which...
Fred, I need for you to secure that pentium from you Dad as soon as it is humanly possible.
Lev is about three weeks away from a service blackout. The quicker we can secure the new home for Lev, the better.

I will try. Things are REALLY kinda tight right now. I'll see what I can squeeze out.

So will we be able to keep Lev running, or will we have to shut down Lev for a while? What will it be?

I cannot at this time aquire a machine suitable to host LEV upon. I have been facing certain employment-related hardships since Jan. 4th, and have been devoting my time and effort to seeking a way to rejoin the ranks of the gainfully employed. So, my fundage is kinda locked in to things like rent, food, and bills. At current conditions, I can last until March without work, but after that, things begin to get really bad. And, to top things off, my email account is locked up today, so I would have sent you this through email, but I am forced to send it here for the world to see. I will let you know what is up as it happens, tho. I apologize for not being able to take care of this, but there were complications that have arisen and must be dealt with most expediently...

Hello
The board claims to have crashed itself because it ran out of disk space. Therefore the board is on Yellow Alert. Please refrain from posting graphics until further notice. Thank you!

I am going over the board now, running archives and deciding what images we can "get rid of" to make more space. What is our disk limit?
Also, we COULD talk about downloading some archives to local disks, and if somebody REALLY wants to see them, we can email or print the desired posts. If disk space really IS our concern, I'd be happy to host archives on my home machine. (once DSL is back up)
Just some thoughts, hope I can help. L8R.

Fred,
This board SHOULD have unlimited space. I deleted some items from my account just in case, it should be fine.
A good idea tho which might be cool is to transfer all notes to CD format - burn a copy for everyone.
If CSH has imposed a limit (unlikely) I should hear about it soon.
Will keep U posted!

Sol,
I hate to but in, but do we have any idea how much space we are in fact using on the CSH servers now?
I personally don't think they have imposed a limit but we may have raised the attention of some of the higher-ups there with the space we were using.

I am comfortable burning archives onto CD. In fact, I doubt we would even fill 1 CD with our ENTIRE archive. I know alot of people refer to the storyboard archives on a regular basis, but the other topics, once archived, are usually forgotten. Those are the ones we should think about downloading and stuff. I would venture a guess that we could free up a bit of space that way, although most of it is text... Maybe 2 megs, depending on the format? I dunno.

Nah... I don't think it's a problem.
I check the oinkers file on the user partition.
Sol ranks a mean #128, while I'm at #160.
spacewise he's at: 48776
while the person on top is at: 823656
In fact, there are so many people in the 6 digits, I don't think we're even a blip on the radar.
Sol, I can burn them if you want, you'll just need to open read access on your CSH account for me to FTP all the files.

Bits,
Thanks for checking that out! Say, that's a good trick. I suppose then that we are officially off of Red Alert. Sweet!

Hello true believers in LEV,
I have begun the (massive) task of archiving old files within the LEV Forums. There are years worth to arcive, but you know, with a little elbow grease and a lot of love, we are going to spruce up the place as you would not believe.
Your patience is appreciated, your enthusiasm is appreciated even more.
Post away!

OK LEV friends,
I closed down all the Computer Subtopics since most haven't been posted in for 3 years or more. I reopened "Bits & Bytes" (the computer discussion) as a single catch-all Topic for the discussion of all things computers!
Now that's a treat we can all enjoy. More cleanup of the board is needed - it is like tumbleweed town around here. I feel as if I have returned to an old house I knew when I was young and have found it in need of love and attention.
LEV forever, this house shall be strong again, so says Sol Hawk!

THE OFFICIAL RE-OPENING
Alright, everyone - I have completed the Archiving of the entire board. Since we are experiencing the doldruums of LEV over this past year or so, I have refrained from too many TOPIC-Nukes. Those dear topics that have met with just that fate have been lovingly set into the great, pink ocean that we call TOPICal LIMBO.
If you have ever loved LEV, if you do love LEV, or if you plan to love LEV in the future, post - post away. And let us not allow this, our virtual homeland, to perish from the Earth.
Sincerely,
Sol

Hello seekers,
I am pleased to say that the LEV_SOCIETY main site, following a great deal of blood, sweat, and tears, has been restored to 98%. Why not take a look? I am happy to add all new LEV-Links to your new LEV sites anywhere on the net. And of course, web page donations are again being accepted as well for inclusion in this, our very own corner of the net, the World Wide LEV.
Keep the LEV,
Sol

Hello everyone,
As you know, one of the Laws of Lev is No Swearing. While this has not been a big problem for us of late, the reason I bring it up is this - I have tried to add words to the filter under "Administration," but for some reason am unable to add any more.
Does one of my fellow mods have insight on this? 'Fox? Houdini?
By The One Known Only as (Greyfox) on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 - 12:43 am: |
Why the H3LL can't we F@ck!ng swear? $h!t, I mean, what the f@ck is wrong with you @$$hole$??? LOL!
By the way, I have no idea how to add words to the filter, but give me time, and I can figure it out. Why? what words do youwanna add? I think we should include "CLOWN" as a swear, personally, but I guess we need a vote on it...

Greyfox,
Ah, now look what you've done! You've upset worbuj, one of our sleeping Authentication Trolls. Little Rotter. I would tell you what I want to add, but that'd be swearing. Let's just say that certain words have derivatives that aren't being caught - also, I can think of a LOT of swear words that aren't on the list!
Getting to and using the filter seems easy, GF, but the problem (for me) is that the words don't seem to STAY added. It might be just me. But see what you think, too.

Puny mortals fools!
I just added a word and it stayed in the filter after I saved it. The one thing it does do is reorder the list alphabetically, so it may be that your naughty word is in there after all. I'd recheck the list. Also make sure you log in as the "master admin" like I did.
Here is my proof of concept.
I added the word . ;)
Just for fun and to prove that bad words can be added to our naughty word filter.
I can remove it if you like. I just couldnt think of anything worse that we hadn't already added. ;-)

Hello fellow Mods (and LEVers, too)
Our happy LEV Forum has experienced a bit of a resurgeance over the past few months and this is GOOD. Not only have we had the chance to catch up with old friends, but we have again created our happy online paradise in our minds and hearts. This space is ours, yours and mine. It is what we want it to be.
Now I call upon each member of the LEV to bring a friend into the fold. Are you still in touch with someone from the original community? Or do you know someone who really likes interacting in virtual space? LEV is not just about being friends. It is about making friends. We have about 5 active members right now - let's see if we can bring that number up a touch. Let's each take a personal interest in helping this board, which we have all co-created, become a thriving, enjoyable place to be and live.
For several years, the forum languished. Let us not allow it to come to this again. Let us do what we can to restore our virtual community to the vibrant space it has been for us before - with new ideas and opinions, with a whole range of viewpoints.
I can't do it without you, brave LEVers. Are you with me?
See you on the other side,
Solenoid

Well, the measures I took failed to stop the "Authentication Error" messages from showing up as a result of spam bots trying to break through.
I've gone to the discus support board and asked about this issue. The answer they game was simply:
We don't support version 3.10 anymore, the new version 4.0 has the fix for this issue.
So we may be looking to upgrade the website in the near future to the new version of the free discus conferencing software.
It's probably time as the version we are running is about 8 years old and well, I'm sure they have made some significant improvements to the code by now.

Hello my dear friends and LEVers,
Just a final message in this topic for those who may visit this place in the future. For those that will find this fine board deserted.
I tell a tale to you, a final transmission from the inhabitants of this board. Long ago, we came to this place in search of a new home. We Web Nomads were no strangers to travel, for we have been forced to move from our homes before. We found what we'd been seeking here - a place of peace and harmony where we could live in happiness and, let's not forget, have FUN!
That was before the bots came. Bots from the far reaches of the net. They flooded this place, this planet, this board. And in the end, we realized with sadness, that it was time for the brave pioneers of Levity to move on once again.
I tell you now that the sadness has changed to joy, for with our most sensitive equipment, we detected afar a new home where we and where those of like mind could find a home amongst the far reaches of Cyberspace once again. This place is called the Lev Online.
So while this, our old home, lays now deserted, home only to the Bots which drove us from this place, the adventure, my friends, has only just begun.
And although there are no more living persons in this place, we, the people who once dwelled here, have left you a key, a portal, so that you can join us.
Please. Come and join us. You need only enter the doorway. Old friends and new friends alike, if you have ever sought a place of peace, a community where all can be welcome, and a place where all the unnecessary stress of ordinary society will only fall away, then we welcome you.
I tell you this sincerely - the adventure is not over. For us, for you and me, it has only just begun.
I'll see you on the other side.
